a petal falls in silent white
in pristine light it floats
as light it alights on
porcelain skin

there she stands, alone
on the bridge spanning
light and dark:
a guide, nothing more
and
everything

death crawls up her arms
in verdant lace
death crawls up her body
a lover’s soft caresses
death crawls up her neck
a shackle of night

an arch of grace, an arch of life
shadowed, a band of midnight
between the river, and the shore
a trinket of silver
dangled in balance

there she smiles, alone
across the gulf that separates
a homecoming
on the quiet air
the sound of her wings

a petal catches the night
a dark seduction
of whispery dreams
of eternal sleep

in the still, in the quiet,
the petal alights
in her shadow, in her embrace
the petal blooms

she is death

she is life eternal

::

and this... is for a star who fell shining and shining still... i hope she finds her way back up to the sky where she belongs

I like this alot Vurt - it has a sense of gothic to it, though I'm not sure if that was your intention.

As always, loved reading your work!

thanks haste! i struggled with this piece a bit, but yes, gothic was one of the "feel" i was aiming for :) i'm glad it comes through.

It comes through very well, it engrosses the reader with gothic imagery and ambience.

You have a truly unique writing style. This piece is perfectly polished and quite delectable (even though the subject matter is depressing).

kudos vurt! I think many in the "goth community" would enjoy this piece...

That said, it's brilliant. ANd ilove it. :)

I'm reading through some of vurt's old threads... this one struck me as special.

These opening lines cast me into a dream:

a petal falls in silent white
in pristine light it floats
as light it alights on
porcelain skin

... and then a nightmare, vividly captured:

death crawls up her arms
in verdant lace
death crawls up her body
a lover’s soft caresses
death crawls up her neck
a shackle of night
