I smoked opium off foil in vietnam ... worked. Although i could tell that it wasn't the most efficient way as i went through a gram in like 2 hours..
Next thing i know though its like early morning and i had been staring at myself in the hotel mirror for several hours off my head haha...

Well this thread's going nowhere fast, methadonia 2010 can you give us any more info on the gear you've got? Do you need further instructions for smoking off foil?

OK, time to bore people again but that's how I roll...
"Tar" and "Homebake" are exactly the same form. Both are made by improperly acetylysing morphine freebase. The texture is a result of heating without reflux. To properly make heroin the cooking vessel has to be completely sealed to bar extraneous oxegyn. If you don't seal it, it cooks into a black rubbery substance. With Homebake you wrap foil around the vessel (usually a plain spoon or test tube) and that is just a wasted effort.
The second facet involves the acetylysing agent. Any GAA (Glacial Acetic Acid) will work, including vinegar. However, the most efficient is AA (Acetic Anhydride). In Mexico, the only source country where Tar is produced (thank heaven) they tend to use AC (Acetyl Chloride). AC is much less efficient. However this can be overcome by adjusting the temp and length of the acetylysation. Unfortunately Mexicans don't do that and so they end up with garbage.
A poster mentioned MAM Concentrations. Good observation and that is because both forms aren't acetylysed correctly. 1 MAM is caused by incomplete comversion (acetylysation), the other from Hydrolysis (which results again from the lack of reflux).
Have to add though that not all Homebake is black, though ALL is tar like. The colour results from the precusor. If you use brown powder, such as crude morphine freebase, you end up with a black tar like substance. Black Homebake is made from OTC APAP/codeine tabs that have been converted into crude morphine freebase via O-demethylation. Most Homebake though (though now its an almost extinct form) is made by crushing morphine tablets in which case it is the colour of the tablet, usually orange though purple and green aren't rare. Back when Diconal was on the market pink tar was the most common form.
As for smoking heroin...The bioavailability is no higher than insufflation. The advantage is the onset rate, near instantaneous.
#4 cannot be efficiently smoked without a near equal amount of caffeine thoroughly mixed in. Caffeine lowers the vapourisation point thereby bringing the melting point almost into synchronisation. If you don't synchronise both points the heroin melts before vapourisation. You will be smoking almost no heroin, just other chemicals.
Tar is #4, NOT #3 which is itself an extinct form. I have explained the Numbering System in great detail in many other posts so if curious, use the BL Search Engine.
