Anyone see that programme a few years ago on BBC - The Bear Family & Me. Apparently the first episode is available on the iPlayer if you haven't seen it... guess they are re-airing it.

Weird and wonderfull man Timothy Treadwell. He chose to ignore the rules of the Alaska nature reserve about not getting within 100 yards of the bears. He got right up close and personal to them, to the extent of thinking he was one of them, one of their friends, and that they would respect him, he named them all like they were his pets, forgetting all the time that they were wild animals and that he was just being tolerated, at best, because they werent hungry during the summer season, for 13 years !!
The guy got turned down for the role of the barman in Cheers, in favour of Woody Harleson. Tough competition there Timothy Treadwell. Apparently he never got over that so would fuck off to the wilderness of Alaska every summer. That became his life.
