As some of you may remember last year we did a Girls of BL Calender.....
This year we are tossing the idea around of doing two different Calender's and possibly other related things.
It will be the perfect gift for the upcoming Holidays, for yourself, your friends and your opportunity to SUPPORT your favorite website, Bluelight!

We have such creative and talented folks who regular this site, I am sure you can come up with some beautiful ideas!

We can pull from some of our popular threads about art, music, photography, pets, beauty.....
Whatever you'd like.
Let's use this thread to come up with our ideas, then we can have a vote for what we'd like to run with- and then a vote on who and what will make the cut!
We'll run this thread for a week or two and then get started!

The rules are this- No drugs, No complete nudity and THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!

So, ladies and gentlemen, put your thinking caps on and start tossing out ideas of what you'd like to see or purchase for Next years Calender.

How many of those do we have? We could probably do a little coffee table book of them by now.

Great idea Keaton!

(we should probably also continue the girls of BL idea too, though)

I like having two calenders, I think we should go agian with the girls of bluelight! I also think the exact amount of nudity should be specified! But since that really isnt a calender you can show everyone, a second , maybe more safe for work(kinda) would be cool!

I am liking the idea of The Best of BL Photography. Or just a Best of BL images, that way art is included too.

I am thinking of doing something different that would be safer to show your family? I like the photography contest idea, or maybe pets? That would be epicly daw!

Awesome. We should try to think of a them that would encompass alot of mediums. That way we can hit on a number of the talents you see here on bluelight.

Maybe just a Bluelight's Got Talent! That's pretty broad but that could be a good thing. In the end we can do a pole where people submit an entry a lot with what they thing their talent is and we can vote.

How about some of the photo contest winners?

This is exactly what I had in mind as well... the photo contests go YEARS back, but a lot of them are still in archives. I'm sure a lot of the older ones wouldnt work anymore, but maybe people could go through and find winners that they would like and then nominate them. I know we could easily find 12 worthy entries out of those, I assume we'd get a lot more nominations than that, so we could vote for the ones we'd want to see in the calendar. I would love to see something done with some of those photo contest winners. :)

I'd really love to see the Art of BL.
This leaves it open to any kind of art....photography, painting, graffiti, drawing, w/e.
We can easily come up with 12 and then if we wanted to do extras we could do cards or something.....

Why not run a photo competition with the theme "Bluelight" where people submit photos or art that represents what bluelight means to their life. Obviously the no drug policy would mean it would highlight all the other aspects of our bluelight community.

I really like this idea as well. Allows us to showcase alot of different arts and different ways bluelight can impact an individual.

^I believe thats actually been a theme for the photo contest before. :)

It has but without the direction, necessarily, what bl means to each of us in our lives. Maybe with that direction it would go 'better'? I remember a lot of literal interpretations (aka blue lights) which is totally a reasonable thing to do... but I'd like to see more interpretations! :D

A quick logistical question if I might: how were the last calendars printed? Were they be batch printed, and then sold 'off the shelf', or printed as they are ordered? Because if it's the latter, we could probably do a bunch of these ideas, and have a little BL merch store. I know that there are a few print-on-demand online bookshops out there, and I'd be very surprised if there wasn't a calendar equivalent. Maybe if we could get consent from photo contest winners to donate the rights to their image, we could do prints? We could do a mod-curated collection of poems/short fiction/what have you from Words. Hell, with the Words idea we could generate an e-book very cheaply.

This obviously would take more doing than a calendar, but we've got a tonne of great content throughout the site, and having more choice with respect to things to buy would translate to more money in BL's operating budget; assuming, of course, that we could have the content donated, and that we would have the physical media generated by print-on-demand providers rather than having to warehouse goods.

I'm curious as to how feasible this is. I'll probably have some spare time this weekend; if I do then I'll look into this a bit more.

does anybody... uh... have a link to last years Girls of BL... just so I know what we're talking about...

i like the idea of not making it literal. BL has had a huge impact on a lot of people's lives, i would love to see their interpretations of what BL means to them. i've been meaning to make a blog post about the impact BL has had on my life, maybe i will try to think of some pics to go with my post.

I think I was one of the few people people who actually bought one of the Girls of Bluelight calendars. Xsie did an amazing job and it's really a shame that more people didn't buy one considering the skills she put into it and the amount of copies bought. It's a great idea but I don't think it's a feasible idea to really put into practice again.

Maybe make some cool t-shirts?

I'd buy one!

:D
