I've noticed around on other SMF forums the "new" icon appearing in the topic list which hyperlinks to the first unread post in that thread.

any chance we could have that functionality here?
 
thanks I didn't notice that :) it would be really handy to have that same hyperlink next to unread threads :P :)
 
It is. When viewing a forum the hyperlink is to the left of the thread titles for threads that have unread posts in them.
 
I think I've accidentally messed up my forum view or settings, even on forums I've never visited before all thread subjects are not bolded and do not have an unread icon

Hmmm. Try clicking the "What's New?" tab at the top of the page, and then when you get the list of threads, check to the left of the titles there to see if the icon (blue circle with two upside-down triangles) is there. There is a button that resets the forum to mark everything as read, so you may have clicked that, but with each new post after that they would show up as being new.
 
Yep on the What's New page (I really like that btw, never noticed it) they all have the blue circle with two triangles. I must have fat fingered the mark everything as read button. ty :)
