BL Film-Making! (Formerly "BL Cinematography")

Anyone interested in having a Bluelight Abstract Film Festival?

Here are some possible guidelines:

No script.
No actors.
Less than five minutes.
Original music. (?)
No real names in credits (usernames).

I haven't really thought it through, but I was going to make a short abstract for this thread and I figured I'd be more motivated and it'd be more fun if there was some competition. Also I don't think there's ever been a Bluelight film festival. It'd probably be good for F&T...

All you need is a camera (any quality) and an editing program.

Anyone interested?

Mods?

There are heaps of musicians on bluelight. You could get someone to do the music or use some already existing music and just credit their username. By 'original' I don't mean you have to compose it yourself.

?

in myu head i got the most perfect anti littering non profit commercial

it just popped in my head as i was cleaning up litter in front of my house

what do i do next

quite the contrary. i'd love to see a regular themed contest in here, but i don't think we'd get much participation. very few actually. it took ages to get the facey contests in the lounge going. for months i was the only one doing any, and you can pop one of those up in three minutes. :)

that and i'm excited about going to a doof tonight and my mind is eslewhere. :D

"to" word perfect there, mate ;)

I'm not sure that the amount of participation on those comps is an indication of how the proposed BL Abstract FF would be. I wouldn't have contributed anything to the comic/facey ones, because they don't really interest me - whereas I will spend a decent amount of time making a film.. The first ever words comp had seven entries, whereas round #17 of your comic comp had only three.. And even if we only get 4-5 films in the end, it'd still be worthwhile. I'm not expecting it to be the next Sundance or anything.

Great! That's four people interested already.

For the theme, I was thinking something broad/interpretable like "heat" or "climax". What do you think? Any other suggestions?

I'm going to try and get this up and running in the next week.

Also, if there isn't enough interest I thought it might be a good idea to make it a multi-forum festival and include other drug related discussion groups like shroomery.org and dextroverse, etc. For some reason the more substance specific sites seem to get more creative input.

Would competing with other forums turn bluelighters off to the idea of the festival?

Give me your feedback.

turned me of at first, and so is calling it a festival, cuz i aint gonna do anything great, just participating, but hey, could be fun, might meet new people and all

we could have a once off comptest to see how it goes. even if we can get just our four entries it would be a success in my book. but i would only keep it to bluelight for now. cross forums is possible, run the idea past the f&tv mods. there's a feedback thread or PM should do fine.

nice one :D

btw: suff rejected me as well. last one i'm entering it in is now the inaugural sydney fantastic planet sci fi/fantasy film fest.

Okay points well taken. You're right, I'll scrap the multi-forum idea for now and just focus on getting this off the ground within Bluelight.

As for it not being a 'film festival' (this title was mainly to satisfy my delusions of grandeur but also to seperate it from other less involved competitions that have circulated around the forums in the past), what should it be called? The Bluelight Abstract Film Competition? I prefer the Bluelight Abstract Film Festival personally - cause the anagram would then be BAFF, which fits in with the whole MIFF, MUFF, SIFF, SUFF Dr Suess thing. How about BAFFF - The Bluelight Abstract Friendly Film Festival?

I've seen some pretty bad films/animations at film festivals before. There's no reason to be self-conscious. I'm not going to devote an enormous amount of time to my entry because I have other projects/priorities to attend to. It's just a bit of fun.

could be fun, might meet new people and all

That's one of the reasons I figured this could work, because it's (potentially) collaborative. All of the other comps on Bluelight have involved people working on something offline and then posting it, whereas with the (Friendly :)) Festival you might want to use some artwork, footage or music from another BL member.

suff rejected me as well. last one i'm entering it in is now the inaugural sydney fantastic planet sci fi/fantasy film fest.

Good luck.
