Biting my tongue while nodding/sleeping and sleep injuries

OK so lately I have been having a bit of a problem with biting my tongue when I nod out.

I do not even have to be asleep anymore for this to happen, just nodding. So it seems to be becoming a bad habit.

Often when I nod I bite down on my tongue by accident. I get about half my sleep by just passing out from sheer exhaustion lately. It really does not help that I take a large amount of pain medication in terms of falling asleep sitting up.

Before you suggest that I do not take pain medication, I am a chronic pain patient and I actually am in a shitload of pain.

I do believe my lack of sleep in bed is due to stress so if I can't sleep I would rather stay up and play video games or watch a movie. I usually fall asleep as soon as a movie/tv program ends or between game levels.

But anyways it fucking hurts and I have on a few occasions drawn a bit of blood.

I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else and also more importantly could I injure myself severely?
