Senator Chuck Schumer (D-New York) said the anonymity afforded by the service provided an “online form of money laundering” and campaigned for its downfall.

“Literally, it allows buyers and users to sell illegal drugs online, including heroin, cocaine, and meth, and users do sell by hiding their identity through a program that makes them virtually untraceable,” Schumer said during a 2011 news conference. “It’s a certifiable one-stop shop for illegal drugs that represents the most brazen attempt to peddle drugs online that we have ever seen. It’s more brazen than anything else by light years.”

dwolla (run by mtgox) shut down by the dept homeland security haha.

you're all going to jail!

Unfortunately for those consumers, the Department of Homeland Security issued a warrant Tuesday effectively shutting down Dwolla’s ability to process Bitcoin payments, as reported by CNET. Whether because of the DHS’ charge of operating an “unlicensed money transmitting business,” the sudden timing of the allegations, or another reason, Dwolla and Mt. Gox officials have been reluctant to comment.

“In order not to compromise this ongoing investigation being conducted by ICE Homeland Security Investigations Baltimore, we cannot comment beyond the information in warrant, which was filed in the District of Maryland [Tuesday],” said Nicole Navas, a representative for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

bitcoin is actually a scam run by the CIA in order to take over the black market economy and make everyones computer do cryptography cracking for them.

^ They're also going to make themselves rich while everyone else poor by manipulating the value of a bitcoin..

Wow. It sounds completely bogus.

"Whether because of the DHS’ charge of operating an “unlicensed money transmitting business,” the sudden timing of the allegations, or another reason, Dwolla and Mt. Gox officials have been reluctant to comment".

Oh well, fuck it mtgox required scanned photographic ID etc Time for another website to take control, theres enough out there. :)

Took a total of 8 minutes to get bitcoins this morning, so they really are doing a good job.

is this one of the easier places then? I've made a pretty penny off a generator today. Without needing to waste hundreds of pounds worth of electricity. Who'd a thunk in 2013 we would be sucking money out of the interwebs

I've been digging all day but I failed to notice the grenade taped behind the door. I've got to mine at least 0.01 BTC before I can even send generated bitcoins to a wallet. Gah. I think I will have to leave the site running for a couple weeks. Maybe if I buy 30p worth of BTC and cyrogenically freeze myself il be like a billionaire in 2560. If we are not all in the internet by then, and physically forced into labour camps to mine 'real' pixelated gold.

What website is easiest to withdraw BTC as £s ?

I eventually got my £s out of Bitstamp. One of the staff was trying to obstruct and delay the withdrawl using whatever BS sprang into his head whilst he was typing while the other was trying to be helpful. It was all very strange. But as i increased the £250 i'd put in by 14 times ive got nothing to whinge about.

Intersango are great for moving bitcoins around, but i dont know what they're like for releasing the £s. Its a strange system. They seem to be trying to create a 'lock in' as in Cyprus where you cant spend or take more than a tiny bit of money out of the country. I dont understand economics much at all (never made the effort to) so i dunno why firms do that.......

That £250 was never intended as an investment I had no idea the value of BC could rise and fall, let alone by huge amounts. If Id got things sorted quicker i could have made about 28 times what i paid in. I wanted to get a small usb drive totally pgp encrypted as recomended on their forum, but i could never be arsed reading all the 'how to' posts in their forum or the 300 page 'how to' document. I'd bought them to spend on exotic opiates or other such stuff. When i realised Id need to spend about £150 in real money to get enough oxy for just 1 night it made me dither, thank God.

If your problems persist let me know and I'll get you the name of the guy over there who was 'customer focused' and not the awkward bastard i guess has been fobbing you off.
