Bike Snobbery, Los Angeles

Any bicyclists in LA have any recommendations for someone getting back into the hobby after a decade of languishing? I just sold my car and picked up a nice bike, couldn't be happier. Now that there is at least some public transport like metro rail in LA versus when I used to live here it is a bit more practical, but that said I will be somewhat limited to my sphere of influence in LA city proper. Any suggestions regarding urban biking communities would be much appriciated! Thank you, and if this would be more appropriate please do me the honor of moving it there
