I received something claiming to be 5-IAI and it stank of ONIONS! Bunk product.

Can anyone offer any information about what this Onion smell is indicative of?

I do not know what that product was, but definitely not 5-IAI. The real 5-IAI had no smell but tasted horrible. Also it was impossible to snort because your nose would just run for hours. I said that the 5-IAI got recently was bunk and that it would not be wise to follow my doses. About a half year ago I made a moderately sized purchase of it and received a cut product with the real 5-IAI at the top of the bag. When I took the rest it made me ill so that is why I do not suggest testing it out unless you are certain it is real.

All I can say is that the REAL 5-IAI was SOOOOOO legit. I used to get it from the most reliable vendor in the states before they disappeared. I'm being completely honest when I say it was by far the best RC I've ever taken. It is not messy like X-APB. It was such a clean and intense feeling. It also had that "zen" feeling that only MDMA has to offer if you know what I mean. It really was just as good as MDMA. Different but just as good.

Read up on this if you do not believe me. This is from Wikipedia: "5-Iodo-2-aminoindane (5-IAI) is a drug which acts as a releasing agent of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.[1] It was developed in the 1990s by a team led by David E. Nichols at Purdue University.[2] 5-IAI fully substitutes for MDMA in rodents and is a putative entactogen in humans.[2] Unlike related aminoindane derivatives like MDAI and MMAI, 5-IAI causes some serotonergic neurotoxicity in rats, but is substantially less toxic than its corresponding amphetamine homologue pIA, with the damage observed barely reaching statistical significance.[1]"

This information has sources and is accurate. I honestly don't understand how 5-IAI never exploded with popularity. It was probably due to the lack of a good and reliable source.

Yeah I just came to the realization that the 5-IAI that I took in the past was actually 4-MMC after reading reports about mephedrone. It was clumpy like mephedrone and from reading other people's descriptions of mephedrone it sounded exactly like 5-IAI. It also must have been cut and adulterated for me to have to take a dosage of 1 gram to achieve full effects. Since mephedrone was illegal at the time, it makes sense for them to try to pass it off as 5-IAI. Hell, maybe they even made up those articles and the Wikipedia entry themselves to try to pass it off as something else. I'm about 95% certain that the 5-IAI I took was 4-MMC or mephedrone at this point.

Just out of interest I bought 1g of "5-IAI" from one of the few places that still seem to be selling it. The colour and texture were the same as the one certified time I got real 5-IAI. but there were a few lumpy bits which I suspect to have been a DRA of some sort mixed in. 200mg produced noticeable effects and TBH they were quite MDMA like.I dunno if someone's got hold of some left overs of the first, and as far as I know, only provable synth of 5-IAI then tried to "beef it up". I think this particular aminoindane could be a useful ingredient in combinations.

Color and texture are nothing to judge by, they often are greatly influenced by how the product was made / crystallized.

What makes you say you once had certified 5-IAI? And a DRA mixed in hardly sounds legit...

I don't know if actual reagent test results for 5-IAI are known or if 2-AI itself is anything to go by, but otherwise perhaps only an NMR analysis might do to make up for the damage to this compounds reputation - to make it believable that one really has this material.

Maybe you should reagent test it before trying to say anything useful about it. Mainly for your own good I mean.
I just don't think that anything sold under the name of this stuff deserves to be bought or deserves any credibility, unless someone can really validate or refute information about it. Otherwise it is just begging for some mystery mix of chems a vendor threw together, and if it really is 5-IAI what do we consider can this compound do that other available compounds such as MDAI can't, if we are talking about serotonergic action? (OK maybe it can release DA and NE as well, which by the way would make the DRA redundant if it really was 5-IAI).
Plus, as it is a somewhat related to haloamphetamines it is not completely devoid of neurotoxicity.

What is curiosity really worth?

You're right, colour and texture mean nothing. The 5-IAI I previously had, came with an NMR and required doses in excess of 500 mg for activity. It's essentially the same thing as 3,4-DMMC in that it requires semi-toxic doses to achieve worthwhile effects, IME.

As I say I bought what purported to be "5-IAI".Just to see what was going on, really. Am I correct in thinking it's a cyclisised version of para-Iodoamphetamine?
