Luke 18:1-8

Then he told them a parable about the need to pray continually and never lose heart.

'There was a judge in a certain town,' he said, 'who had neither fear of God nor respect for anyone.
In the same town there was also a widow who kept on coming to him and saying, "I want justice from you against my enemy!"
For a long time he refused, but at last he said to himself, "Even though I have neither fear of God nor respect for any human person,
I must give this widow her just rights since she keeps pestering me, or she will come and slap me in the face." '

And the Lord said, 'You notice what the unjust judge has to say?
Now, will not God see justice done to his elect if they keep calling to him day and night even though he still delays to help them?
I promise you, he will see justice done to them, and done speedily. But when the Son of man comes, will he find any faith on earth?'
 
At that time, you will be arrested and handed over to be punished and put to death, and everyone will hate you because of Me. At that time, many will betray and hate one another; many false prophets will appear and fool many; and many people’s love will grow cold because of increased distance from God. But whoever holds out 'till the end will be delivered. Matthew 24:9-12

Luke 18:9-14

He spoke the following parable to some people who prided themselves on being upright and despised everyone else,

Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax collector.
The Pharisee stood there and said this prayer to himself, "I thank you, God, that I am not grasping, unjust, adulterous like everyone else, and particularly that I am not like this tax collector here.
I fast twice a week; I pay tithes on all I get."

The tax collector stood some distance away, not daring even to raise his eyes to heaven; but he beat his breast and said, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner."

This man, I tell you, went home again justified; the other did not. For everyone who raises himself up will be humbled, but anyone who humbles himself will be raised up.'

Matthew 25:31-46

'When the Son of man comes in his glory, escorted by all the angels, then he will take his seat on his throne of glory.
All nations will be assembled before him and he will separate people one from another as the shepherd separates sheep from goats.
He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left.
Then the King will say to those on his right hand, "Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take as your heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you made me welcome,
lacking clothes and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me."

Then the upright will say to him in reply, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?
When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome, lacking clothes and clothe you?
When did we find you sick or in prison and go to see you?"
And the King will answer, "In truth I tell you, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me."

Then he will say to those on his left hand, "Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
For I was hungry and you never gave me food, I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink,
I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, lacking clothes and you never clothed me, sick and in prison and you never visited me."
Then it will be their turn to ask, "Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or lacking clothes, sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?"
Then he will answer, "In truth I tell you, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least of these, you neglected to do it to me."
And they will go away to eternal punishment, and the upright to eternal life.'
 
First Corinthians 3:9-13, 16-17

After all, we do share in God's work; you are God's farm, God's building.
By the grace of God which was given to me, I laid the foundations like a trained master-builder, and someone else is building on them. Now each one must be careful how he does the building.
For nobody can lay down any other foundation than the one which is there already, namely Jesus Christ.
On this foundation, different people may build in gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay or straw
but each person's handiwork will be shown for what it is. The Day which dawns in fire will make it clear and the fire itself will test the quality of each person's work.
Do you not realize that you are a temple of God with the Spirit of God living in you?
If anybody should destroy the temple of God, God will destroy that person, because God's temple is holy; and you are that temple.
 
Second Thessalonians 3:7-12

You know how you should take us as your model: we were not undisciplined when we were with you,
nor did we ever accept food from anyone without paying for it; no, we worked with unsparing energy, night and day, so as not to be a burden on any of you.
This was not because we had no right to be, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to imitate.
We urged you when we were with you not to let anyone eat who refused to work.
Now we hear that there are some of you who are living lives without any discipline, doing no work themselves but interfering with other people's.
In the Lord Jesus Christ, we urge and call on people of this kind to go on quietly working and earning the food that they eat.

Luke 23:35-43

The people stayed there watching. As for the leaders, they jeered at him with the words, 'He saved others, let him save himself if he is the Christ of God, the Chosen One.'
The soldiers mocked him too, coming up to him, offering him vinegar,
and saying, 'If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.'
Above him there was an inscription: 'This is the King of the Jews'.
One of the criminals hanging there abused him: 'Are you not the Christ? Save yourself and us as well.'
But the other spoke up and rebuked him. 'Have you no fear of God at all?' he said. 'You got the same sentence as he did,
but in our case we deserved it: we are paying for what we did. But this man has done nothing wrong.'
Then he said, 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.'
He answered him, 'In truth I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.'
 
For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord?
Who is like him among the heavenly beings?
In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared.

Jesus said, ‘If you were blind you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you see your guilt remains.’

Exodus 21:20-21

Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their property.
 
Luke 2:8-18

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Job 11 17-19

Life will be brighter than noonday, and darkness will become like morning.

You will be secure, because there is hope;

You will look about you and take your rest in safety.

You will lie down with no one to make you afraid and many will court your favor.
