Best Way to Wake Up

I'm wondering what you guys find most effective for waking up in the morning. This has always been a problem for me. I'm diagnosed with ADHD so I set my alarm clock about 30 min before I actually need to be up for. When the alarm clock wakes me up, I pop a dexy and fall back asleep - usually about 30-40 min later I wake up wide and alert on my own. I'm wondering if there's any other effective ideas out there? I haven't tried this method with a caffeine pill.

if the dexy is your prescribed daily morning medication then I don't see what the problem is. For many years I had prescriptions that woke me up in the morning and put me to sleep at night. They were prescribed for other reasons like the ADHD in your case but their effects on my sleep and alertness during the day made things easier at times.

I have done what you describe with insufflated caffeine and it "worked" as far as getting me out of bed. That was during the least healthy month of my life tho.

What works for is drinking some water, then doing a few arm/shoulder stretches before ever getting out of bed. After those stretches im ususally awake enough and then hop right into 15-20 push-ups to get the blood flowing then some back and leg stretches. Try throwing on some music, i find it gets my brain going(singing along basically) plus it puts me in a good mood to start off the day.

I hope this helps.

Set the alarm or alarms, get a good ring tone for waking up. I put on "Start Me Up" by The Rolling Stones, have a big bottle of water next to my bed and drink it right away, shower, 1 tbs. of Apple Cider Vinegar, Vegetarian Protein Smoothie, a turkey sausage patty, B 12 lingual, then lots of black or green tea or coffee. If I remember, I stretch as well. However this is on "good" days.

You have to push yourself. Get off your ass and wake up. .. find a reason to wake up. Find a reason to enjoy your day.

Yeah thats a HUGE one...u have to remember a reason why you want to get up..and keep that in your mind before bed and as soon as you wake up. whether its little or big just keep focus on that. Works for me sometimes but when very sleep deprived or depressed or something like that, my half asleep brain seems to think nothing is worth getting up for half the time. That's why i have to literally jump outta bed as soon as i wake up. maybe write a list in big letters of what you want to wake up for where you will see it when you open your eyes.

I find the most effective way to wake up is just to literally jump out of bed as soon as the alarm (preferably something loud and intense, I use Whole Lotta Love) goes off. If I give myself time to yawn and strech and think then I just decide my lecture isn't all that important after all and I can squeeze in a couple more hours, haha.
Then a few cups of coffee for sure.

I bought a "happy light" to counteract seasonal depression and it definitely helps to wake up by switching on the light when my eyes open

STRETCHING!!! it does wonders for me in the morning! I hate waking up but stretching gets the blood flowing and the tension moving up and out. that and fresh air.

Definitely advocate stretching as euphoria mentioned. As soon as the alarm goes off, don't think twice and get up and get into a routine of doing some good stretches for about 10 minutes before starting your day. Makes a WORLD of a difference.

Lots of interesting suggestions in here. :) I'm going to have to try some of these, as waking up has never been my area of expertise. :\

mp3 player. set alarm as usual , phone or traditional alarm clock whatecver, when it goes off gets your earphones in and listen. it usually takes me a good half hour to properly wake up but it works for me.
