lets say i have an original track (an instrumental and an acapella)...if i wanted to remix that acapella with a different instrumental, what is the best way to read the bpm of the original track so i can match it to the new one?

get ableton live, it does time stretching and all of that "on the fly" its very easy to do blends on you can manually control the bpm on each track and match them up till it sounds right

Traktor Scratch will sync your tunes for you and is my preferred choice.... but you still gotta know when to drop the track, just cause you can sync (cheating) doesnt mean you know good track selection, or good spots to drop the next song. I assume you are pursuing this for fun only.... right? Otherwise, get ableton and an apc-40 and your set. If you don't have the loot for a midi controller get ableton or traktor scratch pro.
