Best way to identify a drug user?

^^ I agree with the softness to the voice,

I can pick out a tweaker by looking at their facial structure, and also how they behave, Paranoia is a big give away like responding to every noise around you and the action of instantly looking in the direction where it originated from. Glassy dilated pupils and jaw clenching, lip smacking and grimacing is a give away.

To a certain extent you can spot a drug user by their appearance; you can tell by what they wear, how they act, piercings, the type of slang they use, and how they act, but they only way to truly know is to ask them because some people dress like a druggie on purpose for the style even though they don't use at all. You just gatta ask.

Some people here say that they can spot drug users.
And yes they can, and so can most of us.

But we can only spot a very small group of drug users, the ones that are "open" about it.
The rest of us are really a hard group to figure out if we do drugs or not.

Well, that's if you go by how they dress or what they say. Generally people who do drugs have some sort of little quirks or tendencies that they do that can relate to their DOC. Such as Methheads being paranoid/looking in the direction of any sound, no matter if it is related to them or not.

I know alot of you say that it is hard to spot a drug user and I agree on pretty much every rug except dopiates.
I can spot an opiate addict 5 blocks away, whether they are high or not at the time does not matter at all, you can just spot them... you just know.
I don't know... if they are high at the time, it's really easy (obviously) but if not, you can look for the popped collar and warm clothing to keep the "cold" out and obviously if it's a reasonable temperature they will be bitching about the "cold" if they aren't high.
Even people who have been clean for months, years from opiates you can spot. there is something in their gaze and you just fucking know.

The easiest way to tell if someones a drug user is if there in the same grimey club as u skankin wide eyed!

Depends on what lengths said user goes to hide their "Druggie" appearance.

ex. Me, Any one of you could pick me out of a crowd as a doper, drug user etc. I dress that way, I have the long hair, the speech patterns.....you know the whole "I've been immersed in a drug culture way too long and forgot people actually assess your character based on such issues look".....and frankly I don't care/almost secretly want people to know I advocate drug use.

But say tommorow I get hired as a lawyer, I would probably start to worry a little more how I appear to big brother. IDK, but if you think you can instantly recognize everyone that does the same drugs as you. No. Your wrong.

hmmm. good question. i have found that when im actively using, i just gravitate toward other users - it just happens. i mean, stereotypically, i dont look like a druggie - if you meet me at work or "normal" situations. however, i think that users have "drug-dar," (like gay-dar). i feel like i can pick up on people. i think it is more hightened if im really seeking out people or connections or whatever. it is so true that you never really know who is up to what. i guess they are going to have to permanently shelve those anti-drug films/ads from the 80's that made anyone who took drugs homeless or jumping out windows or *gasp* have long straggly hair. when in doubt, just approach the person in question and ask them to piss in a cup.

Isn't that what the Chinese authorities do to suspected drug users?

But, back on topic, I had a lover who used to constantly tell me I looked like a drug user. Oh well, there's not much that can be done to reverse the premature aging experienced by long time polydrug abuse, is there? (Dark circles under the eyes, for example.)

Anyway, like sweetsurrender said, there are similarities between "drug-dar" and gay-dar: both are sensitive issues which initially rely heavily on intuition to divine the correct answer, and the only sure fire way to clear up the issue is to gingerly ask without seeming rude. It's a delicate balancing act, even when you instinctively know the truth about the other person.

Also, these are two scenarios where it often helps to know one by being one yourself. Like Proust wrote [on male homosexuality in the book, Swann's Way], "But the gods are immediately perceptible to one another, as quickly as like is to like, and so too had M. de Charlus been to Jupien."

I agree that smokers tend to do drugs. I also agree that users can identify other users. It takes one to know one. My friend also told there was this study where some psychologists infiltrated a sanitarium (whatever you call it) to see if the employees could tell that they had no illnesses. The employees could not tell, but the patients could. The mentally challenged, the schizophrenics, et cetera could tell that they had no illness. I wish I could find the link.

More intelligent people also tend to use drugs. http://www.theatlanticwire.com/feat...eople-Do-More-Drugs-Because-of-Evolution-2425

In the end you can't judge a book by its cover.

a lot of different people sport the unkempt long-hair-and-beard style, but it always seems to imply some degree of drug use or acceptance. I have those features, and I don't know anyone with the hair and beard who doesn't use. for me it also functions just as a personal aesthetic, but it seems to work out on the drug level with almost everyone I meet. in general, the disheveled and dazed look is a good indicator. and when it's accompanied by strong b.o. it's usually hard drugs.

Mood is a subtle but dead give away for me that someone's a fellow user. It's either just a little too good or bad with no real reason to be bad. Again, very subtle, but it's there.
