best way of extracting ?

basically a friend just finished growing some dank and chucked me a bag of bud trimming for a price i could not refuse.
the stuff is decently potent, but i would like to get rid of most (if possible all) remaining plant matter. Any tips on how to do this ?

i thought that maybe i can add a very fine powder of the trimmings and add it to some cold water to unbind the thc from the plant matter and then add a non polar solvent and make a polar/non polar liquid extraction and then evaporate the non polar solvent in order to collect the crystal.
Could this work ? do you have a better solution ?

Isopropyl alcohol is probably the easiest way. Just pack the trim down in a jar, pour in enough alcohol to cover the weed, shake vigorously for about 30 seconds, strain the big chunks out with a strainer and filter the rest through a coffer filter, then let the alcohol evaporate in a dish and scrape up the extract.

I find that acetone evaporates faster than ISO and is just as easy if not easier. Just remember to do it OUTSIDE, proper ventilation is paramount. With acetone, you can do it even if it's freezing outside, just make a water bath from hot water for the container in which you evaporate the solvent and keep adding hot water whenever it gets cold. Also, I wouldn't make a very fine powder out of your trimmings because then you will end up with more chlorophyll in your extract as well as having a nightmare trying to filter a thick goo through a coffee filter. Just throw the trimming in the jar as big as you can, you can do for example 3 series of 30 second shake's out of same material each time with fresh solvent to get the most out of it.

Really basic stuff, but you still need to careful.
 
Acetone is a really good solvent when it comes to weed, maybe too good. from my understanding you need to do a quick wash with cold acetone rather than what FnX suggested.

I am suggesting a quick wash, but doing it in small segments because if you do just one quick wash, more of the alkaloid containing acetone is left behind. Although freezing outside conditions implies cold acetone, I guess it's good that you mention acetone should indeed be as cold as possible when performing the extraction (keep it in the freezer for a while) for this should, atleast supposedly, result in a more pure extract.

one more question, i am unable to acquire chemical grade acetone, this is a watched substance where i live, I did find some sort of acetone in a pharmacy like store, i am guessing its for nail polish removing, would this leave any residue after evaporation ? also if it would is there a way to extract just the acetone out of the solution ?

The nail polish remover usually has other chemicals, fragrances, etc. You don't need reagent grade acetone to do this extraction. Can you not get it in hardware stores in the paint section?

But, FnX is right. You don't want to soak it for too long because you will get lots of other compounds(chlorophyll, proteins, etc) that make for a worse end result. I imagine that the times for acetone would be shorter than for alcohol.

Alternatively, you could use a non-polar solvent instead. Butane is popular because it evaporates quickly, but naptha should be good too. That way you won't get the undesirable compounds as much.
 
butane honey oil is the BEST.

quick wash iso is OK.

water/dry sieve hash is also nice.

but BHO is fuckin' rocket fuel.
 
make some BHO, really not hard at all just need a tube, some trimmings, and some GOOD butane. oh yeah DO THIS OUTSIDE.such vector quintuple refined, DO NOT just use the butane from the hardware store it has other things in it that make it undesirable, and possibly unhealthy for you. biggest thing people dont do with butane is they wont purge it all the way, which is also detrimental to your health, so unless you really know what your doing, maybe have a friend help you who has some experience with it. there is also plenty of information on the web about more specific methods, my favorite is to use hot water underneath it, then use a hair dryer at a lower temp untill it is stable enough to where it wont even stick to itself. oh yeah did i mention DO THIS OUTSIDE? well now i did.
maybe if you guys are lucky ill post something about it, if that is allowed of course.
 
i use to do BHO with the gas you use to refill lighter, i guess that if it evaporates fully leaving no residue behind it's ok ?
would you say BHO is a better option than washing it with acetone then letting evaporate ?

only gas i would use honestly, is vector quintuple refined, power 5x is ok but leaves a perfumey taste sometimes. yes it is expensive but youre paying for the purity of it so you dont have anything else but butane in your gas, as these other substances can end up in your end product. if you want to be really sure get a clean mirror(like perfectly clean) and run some butane straight onto the mirror for about 15-20 seconds, then see if there is anything at all left on the mirror after it all evaporates, if there is that is what you will be smoking, if not feel free to use it and happy dabbing %)

BHO is the best I've had/made too, especially when whipped into wax. Nothing compares to that. But I have made and smoked some amazing QWISO (Quick Wash Isopropyl) batches too. I've heard something about Co2 extraction? But that doesn't sound like something you could do without some expensive equipment.

ISO or acetone, unless your an expert, leaves heaps of shitty chlorophyll and plant matter in your product!! You want a GOOD nonpolar solvent like hexane, chloroform or similar! This makes the BEST, golden, translucent honey oil, this stuff will blow your head off!....HOWEVER.. Some try and avoid chlorophyll and such by doing it very fast! Problem is, its not a great solvent[ISO], and needs longer to extract ALL the THC!! To do this, Freeze EVERYTHING that will be used[weed too]. Now, you want a sieve, with a fine mesh, with a gauze insert[some white curtain gauze is perfect], crush weed[not to dust], put in sieve, now, get your COLD ISO[half a liter per ounce], And pour it through into a frozen glass bowl of some sort. Have two, pour contents of first back through weed in to other bowl, repeat. Ten pours are possible in under a minute. This will extract ALL the THC, and NO chlorophyll will dissolve out if your fast!! If it starts to look even slightly green..STOP!! This leaves a golden solvent! NO GREEN!! Now, put it through a coffee filter, maybe twice, till its clear gold, now evap it at 70 degrees celsius! Golden dynamite! Nonpolars like chloroform will not extract any water soluble shit like chlorophyll, so take all the time you want with this, if you can get it, its the BOMB...terpenes intact as you evap at room temp:) For ISO[stuff bloody acetone:/], you must do as i explained unless your happy with brown goo!! The pour through sucks the resin out, ten pours gets it all, even 6 or 7 can do it!! Look up HEXANE HONEY OIL on youtube, it will take you to my page, look at the oils and shatter/amberglass there. Ive made NO mention of BHO, as its The lazy mans toxic shit!! Oh, BTW, if your sieve/gauze is right, it should pour through in six seconds!! Thats what to aim for, as it allows 10 pours in a minute flat...with FROZEN EVERYTHING!!!!! You want details, PM me on youtube:)
