best thing to do to get rid of "love handles"

for some damn reason i just cant get them to go away.. im in average shape, but by far the most fat on my body is in the sides of my stomach.. the front isnt even that fat.. i ran and did push ups/crunches for about 8 months and lost 45 lbs(from 225-180, im 6'0 ). everything on my body toned up, including the from of my stomach, cant see ab muscles, but its not a whole lot of fat anymore.. yet those freakin sides wont even budge.. whats the best exercise to do to get rid it? is there a certain way to turn your body or something to focus on the sides? thanks
 
Well I do Taekwondo and it really seemed to make love handles disapear on both me and my sister. I strongly recommend Martial Arts to anyone.

Taekwon-Do's focus on the balanced implementation of both hands and feet make it one of the most rounded of all martial arts. The specialty in kicks and power generation by twisting the trunk, targets common problem areas such as the thighs, buttocks and abdominal muscles, including the obliques (love-handles). Whilst the hand techniques (blocks and strikes) strengthen and tone the rest of the torso (chest, back and shoulders) and the arms.

ok thanks.. i noticed crunchers helped with the front of my stomach alot.. nothing for the sides though huh.. damn heh.
 
i feel you on this one...there is no exercise that particularly targets the love handle area. the closest exercises that come to it are the ones that hit your obliques, but they dont really get the job done.

love handles arent a muscle group, they are just fat storage. the only way to get rid of them is to lose fat...fastest way possible is cardio;)
 
Yup, there's no way to reduce fat from a particular area of your body, you can only lose fat in general and where it dissapears from and in what order is down to a combination of what sex you are and genetics. Generally the last bit to go on males is the last bits of fat round the waist.

Diet is the most important factor in losing fat (and you obviously have that okay as you've lost so much weight already), but of course cardio will speed things up lots - and the most effective cardio for fat loss is probably High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).

Do you drink much alcohol? The last stubborn bit of fat can be hard to get rid of if you do, as even a couple of drinks worth of alcohol can really slow the rate at which your body burns fat for up to 48 hours after drinking.

Get some body fat calipers (quite cheap) to measure your body fat percentage and to make sure you're making progress. Once you're below about 10-12% BF the abs should be visible.
 
no i dont drink much alcohol.. i do meth/x often on weekends though.. that do anything? i really didnt diet a whole lot when i lost that weight. it mostly came from running alot (i was really depressed from an e comedown and got massive insomnia so i decided to run and do push ups/crunches to try to lose some weight and tone up a bit.. since i couldnt sleep anyway, i figured i couldnt lose)

what type of food is good to eat for weight loss?.. or whats bad to eat for weight loss? :P

i guess technically i did diet when i lost that weight.. simply due to being depressed i wasnt as hungry as i normally would be, i didnt watch what i ate, just didnt eat much of anything. heh.

oh and i dont even understand what the HIIT is talking about. lol :)

Know that this is all in addition to a clean diet and cardio or it won't do anything for fat loss.
 
Azn- What does the K stand for? I'm a chem student and I've never heard of it. And why is it better?

Edit- Nevermind, I figured it out. Its the potassium salt of R-ALA.

as far as your lovehandles go (lovely name ya?) two things you should do...sidebends and "bicycle" crunches.

Sidebends I do with a weight (anywhere from 10-35#), where you stand erect and allow your upper half of your body to bend. Your hand with the weight in it will come to about knee level, and you will feel the space between your ribcage and top of your hip bone shorten. Then pull back up to starting position. I do three sets of twelve for this and my abductor muscles are a lot stronger now.

bicycle crunches work by having you lay on your back, with your feet up at a ninety degree angle bent at the knees. place your fingers behind your ears and keep your elbows flat out alongside your head. You should not see your elbow in your field of vision at any time. as you raise your left elbow, cross it over your midsection and extend your right knee out in front of you. then switch...if you want to make it REALLY difficult, imagine an orange under your chin and keep your shoulderblades off the floor the ENTIRE time.

do three sets of twelve. Resting 30 seconds between sets.

good luck! oh yah...lots of cardio helps! and try pilates...they rock for core isolation~!

It wouldnt be a healthy way to lose weight at all. Meth and E will make you lose weight (especially meth since it makes people not eat) but its harm definately outweighs any benefits. Stick to diet and excercise.
 
^^^I thought the weight loss resulting from these drugs being used was as a result of the appetite supressing effects of said drugs. No?

I am assuming you are a man. Unfortunately in most men the love handles is the first place your body will store fat and the last place it will take fat from. As has been said above you cannot choose where you want fat to come off, you do the exercise then your body decides where it will take the fat from. To get rid of your love handles completely you need to reduce your overall body fat to a very low amount, probably between 6 and 12%. Do a variety of cardio exercise, at least 4 times a week, watch your diet like a hawk and you will see results.
