Best sleep-aid for psychedelics?

I enjoy psychedelics once in a while, however I REALLY dislike that state they leave me in for hours after the trip.. I feel tired and groggy and just want to go to bed, but it's impossible to sleep.

I'm therefore looking for some sleep-aid to use after the plateau to put me to sleep. I'm looking for something that's completely safe to mix with psychedelics (obviously), and something that doesn't linger long enough to make me feel tired in the morning too. I won't be using it to trip, I just want to sleep, so something with pretty neutral effects would be best. I was thinking some benzo, would that be a good choice? If so, which one?

Yeah, one of the benzos is probably best.

There's not a huge difference between them, nitrazepam and valium I think are probably the best for sleep though.

I like Valium for that. Takes away some anxiety during the trip just knowing I have that cloud to fall onto when the fun is over.

It looks like valium/diazepam and nitrazepam has really long half-lives though.. They don't make you feel tired in the morning as well?

Yeah they certainly can do.. depends on your dose/tolerance. Temazepam is a shorter acting hypnotic benzo (puts you to sleep) but isn't hugely strong - should be okay if you only use benzos sporadically however. Technically speaking diazepam is supposed to be more anxiolytic than hypnotic, but most people still do find it pretty sedating. Nitrazepam really knocks me out but I do feel groggy in the morning..

You could also try a sedating antihistamine, or a z-drug like zopiclone or zolpidem if you just want to sleep and want something fairly short-acting. Benzos provide additional anxiolysis which can be helpful with psychedelics sometimes but remember to be careful about tolerance/addiction.. and don't mix them with any other CNS depressants (opioids, alcohol etc).

I think alprazolam (Xanax) would be perfect for this if you only use psychadelics on occassion, as you would not build tolerance to alprazolam's hypnotic effect at higher doses. Assuming you have no benzo tolerance I would suggest 1 mg Xanax to end a trip and go to sleep. The reason I suggest Xanax is because it kicks in quickly, and packs a punch, thus ending a trip quick and effectively. It is very good with anxiety and panic, and while is not as hypnotic as many benzos, can be quite sufficient at the proper dose (probably about 1 mg for someone with no benzo tolerance). It also has a rather short half-life, and short duration of action compared to other benzos.

Alprazolam will kick in fast, allowing you to get to sleep, and wear off before you wake up, meaning you will not be groggy in the morning. If you are tripping too hard for that that to work, quetiapine will end the trip and knock you out, but you might sleep too long and feel a bit zombie-like when you wake.

Any benzo with good sedative-hypnotic properties ie. temazepam, nitrazepam, triazolam are ideal. But if none of those are possible then I'd go with diazepam or maybe even alprazolam.
