Leary believed that the nervous system could be permanently re-imprinted using LSD and other chemicals and wrote about it in exopolitics
and other books. Do you agree and what chemicals and combinations are best to achieve this kind of personality/identity change?

Well I think any life event can bring about a change in our personality, especially if it's a profound or moving one. In this sense yes psychedelics can most definitely do so, and in this way they have great therapeutic potential when used correctly. This is also what makes set and setting so very important really, since if you don't treat them with respect and abuse them in a bad set and setting this can have a similar effect but in a negative way.

Let's make sure this stays on the right track and doesn't just turn into a "What should I take for self-therapy?" kind of thread, but actually generates some useful discussion on which psychedelics have changed people the most and why.

For me personally, I conquered my lifelong social anxiety with the help of aMT (alpha-Methyltryptamine) and my best friend's guidance during the trip. 22 months later and I can still say happily that was all it took. I feel aMT worked well for me in particular because due to being an entactogen and triple monoamine releaser ala MDMA/MDA/etc *as well* as a psychedelic, it combines the openness, empathy, lack of fear and other therapeutic benefits people get from MDMA - with the interesting creative thought patterns and the way the brain just seems to absorb a lesson learnt while tripping so much better than sober (in my experience anyway).

Best of both worlds, and also for me it was better than MDMA in the respects in which I compared them, since unlike MDMA it did not feel hedonistic in any sense, I had a strong sense that I'm there to undergo an important lesson to change my life, so I sat and listened, put the changes into place, and here I am today happy as a result. :)

This reminds me of a kinda like, climbing the mountain too soon thing? You nome sayn? Like. Is a trip any different than another life event? Or would it happen anyway?

I mean. I think the first time you trip out. You look at yourself different. And life different. And yes. Each new drug gives you a new perception, but, beyond that, I don't think its necessarily mutually exclusive to life, or somethin like that.

However. When i think back to when i first started tripping. I would say acid. Because. For me atleast. Acid is more personal. Like. A lot of drugs, for me, seem to be a packaged deal. Or something that relies heavily on the scenario, and just enhancing it. I usually tend to think that 5 people on shrooms are going to have a similar trip somewhere, But 5 people on acid are building on their previous experiences, but feel in control enough to coincide their realities.

Acid, I think, is a more personal experience. A day out going on a walk. Or something. Because it tends to be the same each time after like 5 or so.

As far as visual perception, 2CE. 2CE for me, and i've heard others say the same, nothing has looked the same since that first time.

But DMT. I always look at DMT like this. There's actually a Grace slick quote, from jefferson airplane, quote, that goes something like, "acid is like being sucked up a straw, and DMT is like getting shot out of a cannon.

But for me, I always looked at shrooms or acid as kind of like changing the lens i was looking through. But DMT, changed the "what" was looking through the lens. Or something like that.

Who knows.
