best opioid besides heroin (diamorphine)

While everything you stated is technically correct (heroin essentially being a prodrug of morphine), I can see why people might choose heroin as their first choice but not morphine as their 2nd, and Ill explain why.

If someone is shooting these drugs, heroin and morphine, despite being so similar chemically, have a very different initial feel. Heroin crosses the blood brain barrier much quicker then morphine and thus has a much more pronounced "rush" then morphine does. So in this sense, the initial feel of heroin feels more similar to something like hydromorphone then it does morphine.
Also, morphine creates a much stronger histamine reaction (that pins and needles feeling) then heroin does, and many people do not like this feeling.

So, from this standpoint I can understand why morphine may not be someone's 2nd choice.-DG

nice post. i was just about to post something very similar but you beat me to it.

Hey, at least you can easily get codeine over the counter without a prescription where you are. Here in the US we cannot even get codeine without a prescription.

PS-Im really starting to get more and more annoyed at the fact that I need written permission from someone else (a prescription), if I decide I want to ingest certain molecules.

Without getting into the age-old "It's my body and I'm not hurting anyone!" discussion, Yeah, I completely agree. Responsible adults should be allowed to ingest whatever they like. The UK is turning into a nanny state to the extreme aswell. We're pretty lucky with the codeine, though; however it is only small amounts so CWE's are required. Can't complain though I guess, better than none at all!

I just wish there was something legit that gave the same warmth and nod as codeine. I've tried Kratom and to me it's just nowhere near the same, just made me feel tired. And even though I don't think the taste is as bad as everyone describes, it brings one hell of a nausea.

when "heroin" is your #1 choice opiate, that makes morphine your #1 choice also by default.
See daddysgone's post. Other opiates certainly have advantages over morphine, which is why they're currently used. Bioavailability, duration, potency, and side effects have been improved upon with different opiates.

Also, this topic is a bit subjective. ;)

Eh heroin converts into 6-mam or something that morphine doesnt, not exactly the same

Morphine. The closest opiate (literally) to Heroin

heroin is a morphine pro-drug. It is an inactive substance and breaks down into morphine. So heroin "is" morphine with two acetyl groups added to the original morphine molecule. The two acetyl groups increase morphine's lipid solubility. The two acetyl groups also just basically act like a "propeller", pushing morphine across the BBB at a slightly faster rate than the original morphine molecule. In other words heroin sends it to your brain faster and provides a more powerful rush.

From my experience, Heroin does have a more powerful rush. The rush from IV'ing Morphine feels progressive over a lengthier duration so it doesn't hit you as powerful. Morphine lasts longer and is more sedating than heroin. It does produce a powerful nod. Heroin, hands down, is the better of the two in my opinion. However IV Morphine probably produces the closest effects to Heroin than any other opiate (IMO). If you enjoy the more sedating opiates (vs. Oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc. which feel more stimulating) than you'd enjoy it, especially if you like Heroin.

My opinion about oral Morphine is completely different. Nothing near Heroin. No rush, much less euphoric. Oral Morphine has a really low bio-availability. Regardless, I still enjoy MSContin AT HIGHER DOSES like 400mg.

My SECOND choice to Heroin though is OxyContin or IV Oxymorphone...and then Morphine

Aside from OC I love opana w/ suboxone the most. The suboxone seems to extend the oxymorphones peak by a couple hours plus sub feels pretty good period.

Nobody listen to this. You can not take other opiates at the same time as taking suboxone.

I mean you can take a small dose of suboxone, but then have to take a larger amount of a different to possibly "break through" the suboxone. That would require more of the drug, so would not be effecient.

Some may take low doses of suboxone to lower their tolerance and prevent w.d's and then take a different opiate after a couple of days to get a possibly better result, but I dont think that this is what the poster means.

Also, if you take suboxone too soon after another opiate, you get precipitated withdrawals..... Not fun

Horrible post

100 times is more than slightly faster IMHO ;)=D.

This thread is too subjective and a simple search could tell you other opioids :).
