best on stage music performer??

I've been thinking about this - there's so many...
I wouldn't just confine it to the most energetic / out there performances - some gigs where you're in a small room, and there's an acoustic set, and you could hear a pin drop, get the hairs on the back of your neck standing up - there's a real electricity in that intimacy... gigs by Beth Orton and Glen Hansard I was at would fall into that category...

For rock and roll power and presence, I have to go with Ian Astbury as mentioned above, but not for his performance with The Cult (which I was blown away by), but with The Doors in Dublin a few years back - the man was channelling Jim Morrison, but managed to be somehow a Morrison/Astbury hybrid that was greater than the sum of it's parts - my best ever gig, and I've been to hundreds at this stage

I was quite young as well, I was definitely still at school anyway. I was once again there with my dad! Although he got ditched quick style as I wanted to get a bit more into the crowd than he did haha. Oasis did a tour of small venues so I saw them in London with the da & at The Barras with some of my mates within the space of a week or so. At the time, being a wee guy who was right into Oasis, that was the best thing ever lol.

I turned down on offer of £100 from a boy at school for my Barras ticket 8o

Verve before Ashcroft became a wanker living in the Cotswolds.

Followed them around before they were famous, the proverbial two men and a dog at some gigs. Saw them at New Cross Venue in London though and for some reason there were quite a few there. Stood next to a 6ft brickshithouse grebo watching them and half way through he turned to me and said, with tears in his eyes, 'they're beautiful, just beautiful' as Man Called Sun spread around the hall.

And he was right.

I went to go and see Eminem with my mum :D hahaha

I went to see The Shamen with my dad 8o

In Motherwell lol.

Utah Saints were the support act.

We didn't last very long into Shamen's set before leaving. I was in primary school & my dad had no clue what was going on with all these people's faces & why they were drinking water rather than pints lol. I seem to remember quite a few pilled up cunts being well impressed at the wee 10 year old that was standing there with a big acid smiley face t-shirt on hahaha. Oh the naivety.

Neil Young at Glastonbury was one of the best live acts I've seen, finally some proper music on the Pyramid stage, probably helped by the two tabs of acid!

Some other notables:
New Model Army - One of the most consistently good bands I've seen live.
Iggy and the stooges - Got on stage with him at Glasto, aye he was pretty old when it happened but I still felt it was an amazing performance.
Rob Zombie - Amazing show
Parliment Funkadelic - Felt like I was back in the 60s :D

Sam thanks for that! Listening now :)
