best on-screen us president?

The president from That's My Bush. He's such a loveable character...

"One of these days Laura, I'm gunna punch you in the face..."

:)

Kevin Kline anyone?

martian sheen is fabulous and also dennis haysbert in 24, strong.
michael douglas, in the american president, plays the powerful president with the stong fallable human side very well

yeah I'd also have to say Dennis Haysbert as David Palmer in 24. he's so much better than the president they have now.

I honestly enjoyed Morgan Freedman's short role as Prez in Deep Impact.

i agree.

i also liked bill pullman in Independence Day. His speech was so inspirational.

I've only ever seen a few episodes of The West Wing, but Martin Sheen really is brilliant in that role. As alasdair said, his character is so human and not afraid to show vulnerability, something very uncharacteristic of the traditional perception of the president. I wish real politicians were half as likeable.

i liked that role too - the speech at the end is great. this movie and 'the west wing' are written and created by the same guy - aaron sorkin.
