hi all. im going to give a little background first so you guys understand my relationship with drugs before my issue. basically i smoke weed everyday, more specifically, i dab wax everyday. i have a pretty decent tolerance to benzos, esp xanax. i usually took a bar when i went out last year in college. anyways my point is that 2 mg of xanax is prob the only amount that can knock me out at this point.

ok so my problem is ive been having insomnia for quite some time now, i would say maybe at least a year. i dont usually have trouble falling asleep, although there are some nights that i cant. but my main issue is i wake up in the middle of the night, every night. lets say i fall asleep at 1 am. i would then sleep and wake up around 4 am, then every hour after that till i give up from losing my mind. these past few weeks my sleep cycle has been waking me up around 7 am no matter what time i went to bed and its driving me crazy!!

my doctor has tried prescribing me antidepressants first like trazadone, and mirtazapine, nothing worked. then he went on to the z drugs. prescribed me ambien 5mg, nothing, 10 mg, nothing.

now we come to the class of benzos. as i went in for a full physical the other day, i couldnt help but to complain about my insomnia once again. i explained to him that i did my research and that i knew at first he said he wouldnt prescribe benzos to me i really think its my only option at this point, i then went on to say about me knowing that there are shorter half lives than others. so i asked him if he could prescribe me a benzo that has a short half life so i wont be groggy when i wanna get up.

he prescribed me .5 mg of xanax. now to me, thats nothing. like i said before i need to take like 2 mg of that to be put to bed and comtinue to sleep. so my question here is, should i talk to him again and explain that only high doses of xanax works and ask for a 2 mg prescription? or are there better hypnotics out there in the class of benzos bc anything less stronger than that wont work for me. something around the half life of about 8 hours so i could get that many hours of sleep?

try temazepam. i sympathize with your situation and am prescribed 30mgs of temazepam which even when mixed with vodka is starting to lose its effects. check out my insomnia thread as there could be some info that might help you. never come off knowing that much about drugs to yer doctor. that is why you were scripted .5 xanax and yer lucky you got that. ill bet a mod will close this as we cant tell you what to say to your doctor to get drugs.

Some of the stronger hypnotics that are prescribed are Halcion (triazolam) and Restoril (Temazepam) but these tend to be the proverbial end-of-the-line. You mention morning-after grogginess associated with your hypnotic use, which makes something like triazolam great for your situation. It has an extremely short half-life and accompanying duration of action. However, this can also be a negative as if you have trouble staying asleep and not just getting to sleep, it probably won't work for you for the aforementioned reasons.
