best heat source for freebasing?

My question is what is the best thing to use for freebasing off tin foil...is it ok to use a single wick candle instead of a lighter? how do you keep it from burning/turning black so fast? (how far away do you hold the flame and are you supposed to keep it in one spot or move it around)

I have smoked from foil once. No bad effects. Only time I've done a non-pharma produced CNS stimulant. No bad effects. I worked in a restaurant once and a dishwasher was coughing out a spray of blood. This concerned me in a public health sense, plus concern for the dishwasher. I brought it up to the kitchen manager, in my mind the problem was likely tuberculosis.

The kitchen manager informed me that it was from smoking lots of crank from foil-ēēs (don't know how to spell trying to be phonetic). I may be misinformed. Does smoking from foil really cause lung bleeding? I'm offering up a potential huge bunch of ignorance to the expertise in BDD here.

I've heard mixed reports about the dangers of freebasing off foil...I'm certainly not going to recommend it, barring reports that it's actually the least dangerous of the methods.

This tinfoil/'neurological damage' bullshit is just an urban legend as far as I can tell. Aluminum is not volatile. With that said, you should upgrade to something glass. A test tube, a small vial or flask, or lightbulb make good pipes, combined with a tube or straw, which waste less than foil.

Anyways, a very suitable source is a small candle, like a birthday candle or one of those cathedral candles. They allow for hands-free control.
