Well i wish i could say castlemorton common worcestershire uk 1992 cos that is dance music legend and it's only half an hour from where i live but i was only twelve and into nirvana then whilst pretending to like my older brothers collection of P.W.E.I and Carter U.S.M, sad i know. But my number one experience without a shadow of a doubt is...
New years eve 1997 into 1998 at the now defunkt crystal rooms in hereford, the reason is because Tony de vit was playing the midnight set, for those too young or don't know of him he was a prolific dj, producer and remixer and by 1998 he and hard house was a major player in the uk, 800 people including me and my close pals and the odd person with six fingers and toes, (i live in the country), would cram into this small minimally decorated nightclub for a night that would never be bettered.
The night was young and three expensive little white doves were burning a hole in my underwear so in the queue i relieved that burden, coming up nicely when we got to the bar. water in hand we took our place to the front left of the dj booth slap bang in front of the biggest speaker with the dj's so close you could reach over and scratch the record. Some of the night is a blur, well it was 1998 and good E was injested.
When Tony came on the place erupted like fifteen atom bombs exploding at once, with hammering beats and hi-hats all over the place, hoovers and horns that reached into your body and shook your soul within an inch of its life.
Sweat poured down, water bottles were passed around and lifetime friends were made with just one knowing look or smile, this was the closest i have ever been to a kind of nirvana and i will never forget it, cos we were invincible that year.
At new years eve the decks slowed down this was it a new year. Then he picked up a mic and announced to the crowd that, this club, this club he loved and he was to become resident, with that news he slammed on Are you all ready, a hard fast barnstormer of a tune and the rest as they say is history, a night that just had everything, so yes that was my best electronic music experience.
Later that year tony de vit died on july the second, he had pneumonia and because he had H.I.V he couldn't fight it. In 2011 a poll in mixmag named him in the top ten dj's in the world ever.
I know it's a bit of a fawney, ass kissing post but it was an awesome night.
By the way the worst experience i ever had was creamfields 1999, what a difference a year makes, i took way too much speed and these scouse scally's were kicking my feet and following me everywhere and just after the pet shop boys as paul oakenfold came on psychosis set in and for a few days i thought the FBI were in my tv.
I don't know how to do links yet but if you go to youtube and put in tony de vit, listen to these tracks. Are you all ready, Louise-naked(tdv rmx), The dawn, The naughty north/sexy south, I don't care, there are loads.
