Sorry if this is an old topic, but just wondered what people thought was the best electronic music event they'd ever been to? What sort of music was it? Where and why?

Me is definately ItalyTek 2007. It had a range of pretty much every sort of electronic music possible, but I spent most of my time at the UK link up area comprising of Dnb, techstep, hardtek.

100+ soundsystems, 30 'arenas', boiling hot, in the beautiful mountains of Italy near Pinerolo.

We went there on plane + train, didn't bring a tent or anything, were trecking through the mountains, boiling hot, desperate for water, when suddenly 2 campervans zoom past us, put the breaks on and reverse. It was some friends from UK! They took us there, fed us, gave us water + beers and a tent. Just overall best party for me ever, just really felt so good the whole way through! Crazy europunk hardtekkers, opium tea stands, ob1 k, tek dogs, tek twins, running into people from home in the middle of the italian mountains who i havent seen in years...my god what an experience

Best time had at:

Race against time - Toronto - http://www.ravelinks.com/forums/f162/race-against-time-gfz-6-year-anniversary-and-final-event-87031/

or

Candyball 8 Treatz and Beatz - NYC - http://www.raversonly.com/lofiversion/index.php?t9489.html

or

Nightmare before Christmas - RI - http://www.tightcrew.net/nightmare/

or one of the few Hullabaloo's I went to.

For live music performances, hard to say which event specifically, but I used to live in South Florida, and had the privilege of seeing Jackal and Hyde, Dynamix II, and Rabbit in the Moon over and over again. So awesome...

Creamfields 2001 (Liverpool, UK)

Lee Burridge + Orbital (live) + The Chemical Brothers (DJ set) + Adam Freeland + everyone on real ecstasy tablets + nice weather = Best party ever!!!!!

It would have to be an illegal free warehouse party in Luton (UK) organised by the Exodus Collective NYE '92, 10,000 people turned up which took everyone by suprise although the parties had been getting bigger and bigger over the back half of that year.

The music felt so fresh, Hardcore was really starting to taking off at the time and the free party scene was kickin off in a big way.

This is a flavour:-

The Future Sound of London opening up for Meat Beat Manifesto at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City is the show I recall being the most impressed with.

I'm thinking that was sometime in the early/mid 1990s.

underworld and the chemical brothers at the bill graham civic auditorium

i bought the ticket to see underworld who were supporting the chemical brothers. i didn't really know the chemical brothers that well at the time and, to me, the bill was upside down.

the chemical brothers showed me, that night, why they were top of the bill.

underworld at the warfield, san francisco

probably my favourite live act ever. this was my second time seeing them and the warfield was packed. i was pretty high on mdma and, as ever, they were firing on all cylinders. they went off and came back on and played an insane encore which included born slippy and cowgirl/rez. they went off again and everybody thought it was over but kept it up for a little while just in case. i figured they were done as there was no way they could top their encore. but then they came back on. they played moaner.

Many, many unforgettable nights at the one and only, the utterly fantastic Labrynth, Dalston. I must have gone nearly every weekend through '95, '96. Far and away the best clubbing nights of my life - I still get all nostalgic thinking about it.

Oy, Oy!!

HellRaiser vs. Megarave in Beursgebouw (Holland) it was a Gabber night and the production quality was awesome. They had top name DJs from the first set till the last. Atmosphere was amazing, everyone was friendly as fuck (even though some looked scary)

Smurf & Plague did a great set with them doing a fake fight with blood everywhere then Smurf being off his nut, tucked his men bits between his legs and walked around the stage with his pants down looking like a woman.

The only downside to the night was us getting on the wrong train back to Amsterdam so we were heading towards Belgium with no passports/change of clothes or anything. So we jumped off the train at the first station it stopped at which was 20 minutes after it left and jumped straight on the first train going the other way which luckily for us was the train we needed to get.

Excellent night though.

Indoor venue:
Popsicle 2009. Best setup I have ever seen. Plus they had a triple threat: Ferry Corsten, Sander Van Doorn, and Paul Van Dyk closing. A night to remember.

Outdoor venue:
Nocturnal 2010. Best venue I have even been to. Was hot in the day, but after the sun went down, the weather was perfect, guess that's just how LA, California is. 6 massive stages. 5 of some best trance names at the main stage. In this order: Menno De Jong, Simon Patterson, Markus Schulz, ATB, and Ferry Corsten closing. Hands down the BEST event I've ever attended.
