Best Drummer...

I don't care what group he's playing with or what style, I'm judging him on his ability from what I've heard. Yeah, he's got endurance, but chops? Not so much.

I don't know who that drummer is either, but he for sure rocks it...

I also enjoy numerous names mentioned before me (Martin, Grohl, Bonham, etc.), but I really, really like Carter Beauford from DMB. This guy is like an alien on the drumes and also has a very sick and elabortae drum kit (well from what i can see on the live form central park dvd).

DD: Off topic, but is that dave cd really worth a listen... I like the old stuff, but like a lot of other people I was really disappointed with the last cd and the new movie singles... blah:p
 
^i agree, dmb is getting back into the groove, i believe. its about time! i love the band and have never been disappointed at a live show, but their latest album(s) were lacking. fortunately, they incorporated their not-so-good stuff into something awesome on stage (when the world ends is a perfect example) and actually, i kinda like the new CD---smooth rider, you might die trying, and--even though its incredibly overplayed--american baby has a sweet little beat to it.

anyway, on topic now--- the drummer from minus the bear makes me tingle. i know nada about drumming but i have to say, its those little DnB type beats that make me heart flutter. y'know, when a song is just picking up... i cant describe it very well bc i dont know shit about drumming but i think that guys pertty good.

so all musicians are intelligent......or better yet, you shouldnt respect them unless they are.

How about, hes one of the all-time fastest metal drummers around, hes down-to-earth and 'real' (from Slipknot....from Iowa.....do the math), doesnt do drugs and stays on the same level as the fans, unlike some showmen. Hes a genuine 'metal-kid', plays guitar in his own project band Murderdolls, who came to fruition.

Have you heard the parididdles used to their self-titled cd? How just how MUCH he can slam those pedals in one concert?

Do you play drums at all??? Surely you can respect what he does, in stead of firing off a line like that that everyone KNOWS youre expected to say.

Those comments mean shit all. Raymond Herrera could be passed off as 'shit' coz his style, although its his, hasnt changed in years. Theres also his style of using your entire leg per drum, or rolling your ankles more for repetition. Tons of things factor into making an opinion about a bass drum assaulter.

Down to earth? Real? This moron enjoys wearing grostesque masks on stage and is pissed off because why? He grew up in IOWA. He's a cornfed white boy with a below average intelligence who uses far too many gimmicks in his style and loves to talk about how angry he is.

Gee, you're really making a case here. Now, I like paradiddles as much as any drummer, but try and cite some examples. And "slam those pedals?" Sorry, but I like to watch musicians play. I don't get exciting when someone is just bashing away.

I've been playing drums for fifteen years. Better question: do you play drums at all? Besides, I'm not sure what everyone is expecting me to say on this point. If you're suggesting I can't respect what I don't like you're dead wrong.

Yeah, that's something a million other drummers do. Why does it make Joey special? I think overplayed double bass such as the repetitive 32nd notes over and over and over is crap. You've said nothing to convince me otherwise.

I don't know if it's been said here... but Gene Krupa is/was the best drummer of all time... noone alive today comes close.

except for possibly the drummer from Rush, and Danny Carey from tool.

I'm no drummer, so maybe my opinion doesn't mean much, but I think Jordison is pretty damn good.

Finder - I also never heard anything about him being an asshole, and I think your assessment of his skills is based on your hatred for the image of the band (or perhaps the music), rather than his drumming. That's cool if you don't like Slipknot - plenty of people don't - but I feel like your dismissal of him as a drummer is not based on actually judging his ability. Judging from your past posts, you are not a metal or heavy music fan...seems like your opinions would be biased against these guys anyhow. :\

I mean, I hate the Dave Matthews Band with every fiber of my body, but I wouldn't claim that Matthews is a shitty guitarist.

I don't hate metal or heavy music...I was a big fan when I was much younger, but I've kind of grown away from it. That said, of the stuff I've heard Joey Jordinson on, I just do not like what he's doing. Maybe I haven't heard the right stuff?

Perhaps, he isn't as bad as I think he is, but like I said, I haven't heard anything to convince me otherwise. But you are right, I do hate their image and feel that such ridiculousness is a distraction from the music. I'll give that video a shot when I get home from work tonight and maybe it will change my opinion.

Maybe. If you have only heard the Slipknot singles through the years, you definitely have not seen him at his best. On the radio-friendly stuff he doesn't do anything particularly interesting. I quite enjoy his work on the most recent album Vol. 3: The Subliminal Sessions; I feel like he can mix being brutally heavy with some groove pretty well.

Try "Gently" or "Disasterpiece" off Iowa; the "The Blister Exists" "Opium of the People" or "Pulse of the Maggots" off Vol.3.

I understand that Slipknot can be a difficult band to like, but I have always been a fan of their stuff, and think they get a bad rap.

I would say it's impossible to choose a BEST drummer, but i'll list some of my favorites and why...

Dave Weckl - probably has more control over dynamics than any drummer. he just makes it look so easy

Jo Jo Mayer - the man can do quadruplets with one foot faster than I can with two hands (not really, but close) Probably the most precise drummer i've heard

Danny Carey - I can't really figure out why I admire him so much considering most of his stuff isn't that difficult, but I just love his creativity

Tomas Haake - another one that isn't incredibly gifted by himself, but has an excellent knack for applying drums to music. Destroy, Erase, Improve specifically


I'm really surprised more people didn't respond with "Mike Portnoy is the man." He's great at what he does, but the man can only play one volume (100% ). He just doesn't have enough emotion to his drumming for me to consider him one of the best. Those really fast rolls he does really aren't as hard as they sound when you have your toms tuned right. Two on the feet, four on the hands. Plus, he's a cocky shithead.

Carter Beauford, Omar Hakim, -n- Baltimore's own, the great, Dennis Chambers. BTW, n e body sayin that any metal/rock drummer is better couldn't hold my sticks..... N e body who feel me on this IM me. Peace
