When I'm craving really bad, the best cure (along with writing), is reading about another person's experiences with drugs. Dope is obviously on my mind, so reading satisfies my urge so I don't go out and try to get dope....

The last memoir-ish book I read was "Dear Diary" by Lesley Arfin. It was a very easy read, though I found its subject matter a bit light for my personal taste.

I wanna know YOUR favorites, suggestions, reviews, classics, whatever... on the best drug-related memoirs that you've read recently. I've been urging to use and I need a good read!!!

I unfortunately can't suggest anything, but I DON'T recommend that stupid James Frey book A Million Little Pieces. Anyone who advertises their book as a memoir when it contains bullshit should be drawn and quartered.

Beautiful boy- dave sheff
Tweak- Nic sheff
Go ask Alice- anonymous
Come back- I forgot the author

the first two were written by father and son and it is amazing to listen to both sides of the story with the parent/son and addict/non-addict view

go ask alice is a sad but true diary of a young teenage girl who fell into the world of drugs and never made it out

come back was an amazing story of a mother who wouldnt give up on her daughter and how far drugs can take someone away from everything good and moral in life.

I would recommend all of the above

Marching Powder - Rusty Young - an awesome first book tellse the story of Thomas Mcfadden living in a South American prison.

Scar Tissue - Anthony Kiedis - borderline drug memoir, but still entertaining (except during his straight moments).

I loved "Go Ask Alice" when i was about 12......

oh, this makes me laugh cuz it doesn't appear to be too serious, considering it's by Russell Brand, but has anyone read "My Booky Wook"???
i'm considering giving it to someone as a present.

thanks expothead..... i was literally JUST trying to remember who wrote a memoir from the RHCP.... did flea write something or am I just a tard?

Its been awhile since I have read some of my old posting that I used to write on bluelight...

blahblahblah drugs

Here are some of my favorite books... It is an old list and I havent bothered to update it for years, there is also a favorite heroin movie thread that I made long ago that has some good stuff in it.
books

As far as my best memories regarding drug use, I really have too many to even begin to pick one. An occasional memory hits me from time to time, if its a good one I usually get a very relaxed feeling washing over my body and it seems like I am transported back into time and I can recall lots of details. Very comforting at times...

Peace,

I actually really like the book, but just not the fact that he advertised it as a memoir. I like his writing style. Have you read My Friend Leonard?

As far as Go Ask Alice, HATE IT simply because it's all propaganda nonsense.

hmm...i think the ONLY drug memoires ive ever read are Junkie by William S. Burroughs - it's great though

A pretty good book that I havent read for years, Burnt. Typical high school orientated themes LSD, reefer, and alcohol. Takes place in the 80's lots of good LSD. I was trying to find the book online and it looks like the title got changed? Why, who knows but I liked the original title. It has been probably about 15 yrs since I have read this book so it might be easier reading but I recommend it none-the-less.

High School, A Teenager's Drug Addiction, Treatment and Lasting Recovery, Volume 1
By Craig E. Fraser
