Harm Reduction Best Drug for Hangover

Thanks for your suggestions friends... I think the best and easy solution for hangove is to drink enough water before and after consuming alcohol because alcohol makes the kidneys release extra fluid and because of which you feel certain problems..

a shower with axe hangover body wash followed by a breakfast meal and coffee from mcdonalds

This is ridiculous. Everybody knows that hangovers suck and there are all sorts of ways to use more drugs to feel better... but you'll ask now what is the best drug for a hangover? Everyone says benzos, opiates and so on. Next thing you will ask for is what is the best cure for opiate/benzo wd? Just stick to water, food, exercise and rest. Don't go for drugs for hangovers. Like those dumb cactus pills and as above poster says 'axe hangover wash' (as if a shower gel can cure a hangover - it is just the association of the fresh smell and the refreshment of the shower that leads to the placebo effect that AXE have taken advantage of to sell more shampoo). Much of all this 'drugs for hangover talk' is plain and simple placebo - of course weed helps, of course opiates help, of course benzos (especially those as they are GABAergic) help and soon the effects of these drugs will be associated with each and every hangover, so that one cannot ride it out in the good old fashioned way. You just feel better after some H or some klonopin when hung over, but it is not curing the hangover, just making you feel different and better. There are no drugs for hangovers, just drugs that seemingly alleviate some symptoms by making you feel diffferent. But yeah, there are tons of arguments as to why one is better than the other and so on, alcohol hangovers is probably the oldest form of hangovercrash/wd in history, and there still is nothing that directly takes care of the hangover. Each and every drug has a 'hangover', and each and every one will have a 'best' drug to 'cure' it.

The best drug for any hangover of any drug is more of the SAME drug. But the best advice is to abstain, then there is no hangover, and no need for all sorts of drugs to take care of it.

i agree with poster above. you're supposed to feel like shit a little so u don't end up getting smashed every night. i could be wrong but i'm guessing the hangover is a reason that a lot of folks don't become alcoholics

No, it's not ridiculous... And no, the best drug for any hangover ain't necessarily more of the same... Hey! I'm not saying that trying to cure a hangover with other drugs is wise, and that it should be done each time you drink too much... but if you MUST feel better, there ARE drugs that might help cure a hangover. Do some research buddy: NAC really does help the liver by increasing the amount of glutathion getting rid of acetaldehydes, the by-product of alcohol metabolism fucking you up... Lots of water, NAC, a MODERATE amount of codeine or another opiate and caffeine DOES cure MY hangovers... and I mean, completely lol. I'm not making this up. Maybe you should try it out instead of moralizing in a forum frequented by happy drug users who just won't abstain ;)

Idk man I love hangovers. Ya know still bein all fucked up. Depends on the alcohol though. Votka hangovers are my favorite. I feel real good the next day. Beer hangovers are real good to.

I can't stand whiskey or wine hangovers. Those gimme headaches the next day. I usually drink more to get rid of nasty hangovers or get other drugs.

Drinkin a fuck ton of water helps with the dehydration. Also eating a good breakfast helps an an energy drink like a monster always hits the spot.

aww... Thats not fair. Ive never had an enjoyable hangover.
I have woke up still drunk though and that was nice, until i had a fry up and the hangover kicked.
Funnily enough vodka gives me an awful vomiting type hangover but whisky never gives me any hangover. Must be the scottish in me.lol

An opiate.

took me 3 seconds to figure that out.

Bingo! Oxycodone being my personal fav (not that I can ever get the bloody stuff, being in the UK and all)

Failing that, Diazepam, lorazepam, nitrazepam, temazepam etc. Not so much xanax, which for me equates to KO or nowt.

Kratom tea works well if you've 1) got good stuff 2) got a decent recipe, and 3) got a low opiate tol'.

Failing all that, pop your NSAID of choice and skin up a fatty.

-> Best cure is prevention in the form of food + a pint of water before bed.

Depends on how much of a hangover you have, if it's mostly just a headache thing, caffeinated beverage + NSAID or APAP works well. If you have some nausea, ginger tea or cannabis can help. I usually get anxiety after a night of drinking and will have some chamomile tea or some sleepy time extra.

Indubitably.

R-ALA before drinking seems to do something for me. This is similar to what people recommend for NAC but I never noticed a big effect with that one.

But my non-chemical advice:
A) Lots of water while drinking.
B) Don't overdo it.
C) Avoid poorly made alcohol. Ethanol is a poison in itself but some of the byproducts (eg "congeners", higher level alcohols called "fusel alcohols", etc.) do seem to make for a worse hangover. Alcohol is a food to me and I don't mind the "congeners" personally, as some of these are tasty. But for alcohol as a drug I'd think you'd want something as close to ethanol-in-solution as possible (eg a well distilled vodka).

"naturals" are always going to be better for you and will actually cure the hangover, which in effect is mild alcohol poisoning anyway. But other drugs can helpwith the symptoms.
Most hangover pills if you look at the ingredients are just common medicines like paracetamol or aspirin related drugs with an antacid and rehydrating salts and probably alot less expensive to buy separately. The lemsip products for flu are a good example of this.
incidentally lemsip is quite effective for a hangover aswell.lol
all of the ingredients in those hangover caps in your link could be bought at a natural health shop for a fraction of that price and in a healthy individual probably dont make that much difference.
