Whether ya cmon down from stims like i am today or u've just had a stressful day. Maybe not getting enough exercise. Everyone could benefit on knowing about the best sleeping tablets.
here's a list of the most common sedatives u'll find if uve forgotten which one you had that really worked well:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedative

So I'm interested in other ppls experiences with sleeping aids!

Only list something that's gunna actually get ya fucking tired (So don't mention chamomile tea lol). if u get insomnia like I do or uve had a heavy night on some goof stuff ya need some serious sedation. I only want drugs mentioned here that u can always rely on even if ya completely strung out. So herbal stuff shouldn't be mentioned unless it's really strong but u dont want a headache in the morning either. So drinking alcohol to get to sleep for instance would be a bad idea. But here's some good ones.

My vote would have to go with temazepam 10mg-50mg but only if you don't have a tolerance of course which most ppl build up pretty quick. So u'd have to up the dose but if uve never had it before I think it gives the most restful sleep. no hangover. calm drowsiness that feels natural. Doesnt interfere with REM sleep like other benzos do. Only downside is ya build a tolerance unlike APs like Seroquel.

I ran out of Seroquel so I picked up some otc promethazine (phenergan) It's legal in australia, not sure about usa. I prefered it over diphenhydramine which had a mild hangover. Interesting fact is that promethazine is actually also a weak antipsychotic. I had the max dose recommended tonight 75mg & i forgot how good this stuff was.
I had 250mg of Seroquel last night & it made me less drowsy & seemed to have more side effects. I don't know if promethazine would be any good for mental illness but Ive always found it just slightly more comfortable than seroquel. The other good thing is. promethazine is suppose to be better than the non-sedating antihistamines for allergies. Good to potentiate opiates to. anyways 5 mins ago I was falling asleep while watching TV. Something I never do. Problem with this drug Ive heard u cant take it more than a few weeks. Asked the pharmacist why & they said it's cuz ya build a tolerance :\ not so sure of that though cuz i used to take it often before I started on APs.
Just thought of something this drug isnt recommended to be taking over 75mg. I once read somwhere that's about equivalent to 100mg seroquel which isnt all that much if ya comin down from something. So basically u can get more sedation with seroquel if ya need it. they even make Seroquel in 400mg tablets. seroquel is only really 2nd sedating compared to one other drug called clozapine but I dont like the sound of it because it can play with ya white blood cells & ya have to be closely monitored. You must also have regular blood tests & it puts on probably the most wight out of the APs while seroquel is one that puts on some of the least weight. Actually practically none if taking less than 100mg.

My Next would be seroquel. High doses for mental illness may leave u feeling like a zombie but if u keep the max dose to be 100mg its still only a antihistamine & it doesnt put on weight at that dose. This ones good cuz it kicks in faster than other APs. It peaks faster to at only 1.5 hrs. it has the shortest half life to out of the APs of only 6 hrs so it you have more energy at night & only feel tired when u need to. zyprexa had a half life of 30 hrs. Now that's good for ppl with schizophrenia & need there dopamine blocked 24/7 but it's not good if ya just using it for insomnia.
Like I said earlier there should be a dose of this stuff that'll help anyone rest no matter what state they're in. The highest dose is 400mg which has pretty heavy sedation for when ya having a really bad time.

Others Ive tried.
other benzos. valiums more sedating & longer acting than xanax but interferes with REM sleep I think
mirtazepine. gave me lucid weird dreams but didnt take it long enough
zolpidem. it was like being in a delirium trip. i obviously took to much & have only had it a few times so can't comment. only has a half life of 2 hrs or something like that. So it only helps u get to sleep. not stay asleep

sorry I cant think of anything else right now.
the perfect sleeping pill would mild with just an anti-anxiety effect in low doses (like valium) and potentially strong enough so it's a struggle to stay awake (like cloazapine) in high doses. It should have a half life of only only 3-6 (like seroquel) so ya dont wake up still heavily sedated (like temazepam.) it cant make ya black out and have horrible amneia (like zolpidem) & it cant give ya weird crazy dreams (like mirtazepine) You must not build an insane tolerance (Xanax) hmm cant think of an aspect of promethazine. (oh its gotta potentiate ya opiates & make ya itch less lol)

Does anyone know the name of this drug? :)

sorry mods. not sure if this belongs in drug culture.

Magnesium (chelated at 400-600mg), and Melatonin 1mg. They both increase REM sleep, and apparently Melatonin is as effective as Z-drugs at 0.5-1mg, higher doses than that actually give you not as good of a sleep. It doesn't knock you out, just lets you go to sleep whenever you want.

If you must go the benzo route, Temazepam is good, as it doesn't affect REM sleep. Try the top two first, though.

yeah I needed some Magnesium last night. I had some meth & oxy. kinda a big night. let me just say I very rarely touch meth.
so yeah that would have helped my jaw clenching. ive heard its the "calming" vitamine. Calcium was said to be the stimulating one. Dont remember where i learnt that from sorry
unfortunately the adequate dose of it wont fit in a multi so u have to buy it alone.

Melatonin u say? & u can buy this at the pharmacy & this is the best "restful nights sleep" tablet u know of?
hmm ive tried zolpidem before but it was a long time ago so i forget the dose i had :(
what's a standard prescription dose of zolpidem for sleeping?

Anon54, I've removed your duplicate thread.

BDD is a quick q&a forum; while I appreciate that you want to explain the situation fully, you will get a lot more responses if you keep it short and to the point. This is also a really common query; have you tried using the search engine (clock "go advanced" for better results, or use toe google search bar at the top right of the screen) or looked around for similar threads?

You've listed pretty much all the main options there. Gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica) have shown promise, especially in preserving deep wave and REM sleep, but they are not licensed for this and tolerance/addiction is an issue.

I would be extremely wary of using an antipsychotic for sleep - if you weigh up the risks (movement disorders such as akathisia and tardive dyskinesia, increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease) against the benefits I just don't think they are worth it. It is up to you and your doctor, however.

Sedating antihistamines can be very good, but again tolerance/dependence limits their usefulness..

Benzo-wise, if you don't want to feel groggy in the morning you need one with a short half life. Temazepam is the classic hypnotic that is prescribed, but triazolam (Halcion) is stronger for people with a tolerance. Longer acting hypnotics such as nitrazepam and flunitrazepam may make you wake up feeling very sluggish. Benzo addiction is no joke however, and again tolerance is a problem, so benzos are not really suitable for the long term.

if you are interested in herbal medicine, supplements, complimentary therapies etc then you could take a look at the Healthy Living forum.

How is your sleep hygiene? It is the thing that has the biggest impact on sleep. Only use your bed for sleeping in; have an hour's relaxation time before bed; don't watch TV or look at a laptop late in the evening; no caffeine after midday, limit smoking cigarettes; if you can't sleep after half an hour get up for 10 mins; have a fixed bedtime and a routine; don't lie in to compensate. It takes a while to train yourself here, but it can help hugely.

All of this information is available on BL - go digging! We also can't really recommend what drug you should take.. have a discussion with your doctor about it.

Closed, pm me with any queries :)
