ive noticed while on gabapentin (im supposed to be on lyrica starting tomorrow and i know it has the same effects pretty much), personality changes. It makes it hard for me to interact socially -it does help social anxiety but it makes me "weird" in social situations. Sometimes causing mutism in a way. Also I wanted to know if the muscle tensing effects with the lyrica/gabapentin are the same with benzos. But in your guy's opinions, what do you think about this? Lemme know-cuz I don't think I have these personality changes with benzos-or I just may be too fucked up to care or realize? but i dont think so.
thanks everyone[:

p.s. also what do you guys think about gabapentin depression vs lyrica depression. did my first lyrica dose an hour or two ago and I think it might even kinda help with depression...or it could be the 3 bars of xanax I did last night but idk

Well my favorite thing with gabapentin is that I'm able to completely avoid social akwardness, although recently that has started to fade somewhat. I think benzos are probably better for this but you'll be wayyyyy more obviously messed up than on gabapentin so that in itself can create social akwardness.

What do you mean your able to avoid social awkwardness? o: cuz i feel like when I'm on it i don't really care what others think n stuff, and I tend to be more social. But in..weird ways. idk it's weird.

Ya that's exactly what I meant by how it's starting to fade, I'm not self conscious, but I just act like sociable in a weird way. Idk it's hard to explain.

Lyrica is thr better choice but good luck getting your insurance to cover it! I literally had to call everyday and bitch my insurance company out and even after they covered it , the lyrica was still very expensive

I change while on gabapentin but, I like it. Klonopin just makes me depressed if I take it everyday which some ppl like but I hate it.....I only keep my doc on his toes because I don't know when I'm going to run into a big OCD spike that I have the klon's ready to put it out. Umm, well maybe you'll do better on lyrica. Every drug is different on a person and maybe whill gaba's work for you in certain situations...Maybe a benzo is your answer. Just don't get addicted to them.:)

What exactly do you mean? Are you getting sore or tight muscles as a side effect of the gabapentin? I did, but have not experienced that from benzos.

As for benzos there are many different benzos, each with slightly different effects, and of course it really depends on the person, but in my experience gabapentin has been more effective for socializing. I would generally not feel as tired, be in a better mood, not feel self-conscious, be more enthusiastic, outgoing and talkative. BUT it's a weird drug and the effects seemed to really vary depending on the dose I took, when, when I ate, and what I was doing. Sometimes I would feel afterwards that I had behaved weirdly or been too outgoing, if that makes sense (like too talkative or too loud or saying too many personal things) but it might just be a rebound anxiety because no one else seemed to notice that. Both gabapentin and benzos can cause dependence, but I think gabapentin doesn't cause dependence as often or as quickly, especially if you don't use it all day every day. Gabapentin takes longer to take effect than most (all??) benzos, but that may help it be less addictive. I stopped taking gabapentin because I didn't like the side effects. Have you considered other options to help with your social anxiety?

mkay. I took xanax yesterday and I noticed the relief from my anxiety, without acting peculiar like i do on gabapentin. Just got lyrica in stock only problem is there from canada and I can't find the pill ID anywhere online about it. I'm thinking of just gettin off the lyrica-since I'm sure it will cause that awkwardness socially-and just get on something like xanax. I'm likable, easy to talk to and all that on xanax. Though it does make me a little impulsive.

And Swimmingdancer what I meant with the muscle side effects, there quite weird, sometimes its hard for me to move em, but at other times, i fidget like crazy off em. Kinda look like a crack head one of my friends told me lol. I really don't like the awkwardness that the gabapentin/lyrica causes so I'ma try my best to get off em and get on a benzo (not klonopin because as someone else said, it made me feel preettttyy deppressed. which is weird IMO because it has the highest effect on serotonin than the other benzos)

Yeah clonazepam can be kind of dysphoric in my experience. I wouldn't say it makes me feel depressed exactly, like I wouldn't feel super-sad, more just tired and apathetic. I think (from what I've read) that its effects on serotonin are very unclear.

Gapapentin has all sorts of weird side effects which seem to vary as I said above, I'm not surprised it makes you feel weird.

Alprazolam (Xanax) I would be very careful with because it is very addictive.
