Misc Benzos Vs. Alcohol

i'm not sure if it's actually marketed or known for muscle-relaxant properties, but z-drugs give me a strong body-load, like under a heavy warm blanket. imo, hypnotic sedatives in general, or at the ones i've tried (oxazepam and lorazepam) has this effect. maybe that is why i find it so much more recreational, because it completely messes with your motor skills too.

Might have to root them out again and give 'em another shot either at a lower dose or just without the booze. If you're a fan of the co-ordination fuck-up, you'll probably like etizolam. It's technically neither a benzodiazepine or a zed-type drug, it's a thienodiazepine, but it's relatively similar to xanex in it's effects. Seems to hit heavier for me though! =D

etizolam also has a longer duration too. i have yet to take etizolam recreationally, but they do wonders as anxiolytics in theraputic doses (1mg).

Etizolam have short duration compare to a lot of Benzodiazapine.

Etizolam have a half-life of around 4 hour + metabolite of 8 hours.
A lot of Benzodiazepine have half-life the past over the 20h to 100h in total with metabolite, some even last near 200h with metabolite.

I'll take benzos over alcohol anyday.

Alcohol has a more enjoyable come up but I always get a headache a couple hours later and almost always feels like shit the next day.

If talking from a recreational stand-point, I would take alcohol over benzos any day. I've never found any recreational value in benzos. I had one fluke where I took a Xanax bar and had a freak rolling-type of body high but blacking out doesn't sound fun - I don't black out with alcohol unless I've REALLY overdone it (and even then I start remembering things a few days later) whereas my daily therapeutic prescribed 10mg twice a day of Valium causes me to black things out all the time - I'm actually more liable to remember things when I'm drinking (even with the Valium in my system) than I am when I'm not.

Ideally I'd rather not need either of them or any other GABAergic substances.

if it was a case of doing one or other on its own, i'd definitely take booze. as a combination, i've always had a ball ... well, hell, i say that - i never remember anything and i always seem to end up in a cell or waking up on the street or in hospital. without my shoes.
it's a pretty ridiculous combination. i used to do it a lot and it got me into a lot of completely ridiculous situations, almost all of which are regrettable. funny? yeah, but if being sensible, i'd say steer well clear.

for me personally, i never found any real mid point when mixing the two. i was my normal drunken self one minute and then i'd wake up 12 hours later having no idea what had happened the next.

Booze wins for recreational value.

Benzos win for anxiety, insomnia, coming off stimulants, or just enjoying a longer lasting nice buzz.

I also find my booze intake to be easier to control than benzos and I really don't want a benzo addiction... so the overall winner is still booze.

I don't know why but I've always preferred alcohol to benzos for coming down from stims. I know its HORRIBLE for you but Jack never failed to take the edge off whereas benzos were hit or miss plus they took awhile to hit. I'd usually pop a milligram of Klonopin and drink 2 or 3 shots right off the bottle (was always Jack or vodka) and I'd drift off to sleep.

Who wins- dont know how to answer b/c they work on receptors vastly different from one another... i don't know who told you they are similar enough to compare.

Alcohol can very much be compared with GHB or barbiturates (barbs convert in the liver to a tertiary alcohol) if you want a fair comparison while benzodiazepines dont have anything else that similar and stand out from other sedatives in that much like SSRIs they target specific GABA subreceptors and benzo receptors while barbiturates for example target both; all GABA receptors and the increase in amount of GABA release which is similar with other older sedatives (meprobamate, for example).

Alcohol and GHB on the other hand have dopaminergic activity which is why there is a higher level of euphoria and a social component with those compared with strictly sedative drugs like barbiturates, carbamates, etc - which produce theyre euphoric effects stricly via sedation/hypnosis

To answer the OP's question I say alcohol is better since its more euphoric but benzos are way more effective for social anxiety and panick attacks without the euphoria of alcohol..you decide on the long term.

If I'm about to eat a nice meal I may choose the beer.

But for the most part I'm a hardcore benzo-head. No nausea (in fact, a reduction of, usually). No hangover. No sloppiness. No calories. Easily concealed. No fuckin contest.

Only time alcohol wins is when you're enjoying some cold beers with a buddy. Nothing much social about popping a pill, except the fact that... that pill will make you more social.

I'm surprised how everyone thinks benzos can't be compared to alcohol. I find them VERY similar, just variation of effects. For example i feel benzos are a cleaner no nausea, muscle relaxing, more anxiolytic type of buzz but risk the chance of blackout while alcohol is nausea inducing, hangover inducing, and dirty version of benzos but their plus is more euphoria and less chance of blackout so I feel they share the same general effects but both have their positives and negatives. I'd go with benzos ANY day though as I feel they are a more clean buzz while alcohol feels and is toxic, plus I hate how even after a single shot I can smell and taste the alcohol while breathing. Feels very nasty.

You took 18mg's of alprazolam in one night? 8( Did you end up waking up in a jail cell naked covered in peanut butter?

It's not to do that with no tolerance. Summer of 12 I ate 12 mgs of Xanax In one night and have no clue what I did. I stayed home all night except for an hour where I walked a half mile to the bar at 11 at night, slammed 2 captain and cokes, paid and walked home. I had to wake up at 5am which was brutal. When I got home my mom asked my mom asked me wtf was wrong with me and I told her idk. Lmao since then I djnt get more then a bar or 3 foitballs at a time. Cuz if I got only 3 then I can save one out for the next day

I would imagine this has a lot to do with tolerance...

I have never gotten a pleasant buzz from benzos except IV Ativan and the first time I had a Xanax bar but I take benzos every day and have for years - I was up to 8.5mg a day of Xanax at one point as my prescribed dose, switched to Klonopin at 4mg and maxed at 6mg, and ended up on Valium at 60mg and I'm down to 12.25mg now but I always have enjoyed alcohol and find the buzz of alcohol to be a lot more recreational - it removes any social blocks that I have (only Klonopin ever has touched this and a Klonopin/Celexa combo killed it until I had a psychotic break from the Celexa), enhances sex drive and the act itself, and it doesn't zap my energy once I get passed the buzz and into the drunk stage. I also don't black out from alcohol unless I WAY overdo it (as in, I should be in the grave overdid it) while benzos are like I'm walking around like a zombie every day and I regularly black out things just from my prescribed doses.

Maybe its the stigma I've attached to benzos that keeps me from abusing them as I've gone through the withdrawal a few times just from taking them as prescribed, who knows.

Your right, if you take benzos every day then tolerance to effects is to be expected. I don't have any real tolerance to benzos and certainly don't abuse them often and when I do I stay at reasonable doses and I've yet to black out. I've never been too crazy for gaba-ergics, especially alcohol. What I do know is that when I take 2-3mgs of xanax I'm pretty messed up and it's very akin to being drunk and I can't find any other drug that comes closer too in effects although I haven't tried GHB so I don't know how that will compare.

High dose kava is like being drunk but completely lucid. Its very nice. I never touched G either. I didn't think that messing with addictive GABA-B agonists would be a wise thing when I already had GABA-A down-regulation so I've avoided baclofen, phenibut, GHB, GHV, GBL, etc.

I can tell you that I had a calming blend from MRM called Relax-All that had Valerian and phenibut in it (I was amazed when I saw it at Whole Foods) and I only needed 2 capsules of the recommended 4 capsules WITH my benzo tolerance to get straight fucked before crashing into a deep sleep.

Booze wins, because I can slip into blackouts and withdrawals WAAAAY easier with benzos than alcohol. Shit, I can eat benzos at reasonable dosages for just one weekend and have shitty withdrawals for days afterwards. Also, I give 0 fucks a hell of a lot quicker with benzos causing me to do crazy shit that my friends have to tell me about the next day. All that said, I do love the benzo high cuz I'm prone to anxiety, but their such a fucking double edged sword!!

They're both pretty bad. I have consumed a lot of alcohol and I have taken benzos (unknowingly) in combination with alcohol since a few times people would spike my drinks at bars or dance clubs, and then I'd keep drinking. I never got hurt or got majorly fucked up; but I had people watching out for me and not all drugs effect me the way they do to most people. Yes I blacked out and puked once or twice despite not puking at all from alcohol ever; but I was still easily able to walk around, and I did not have to go to the ER. I am lucky as people have died from this combo.
