Benzos taking over from barbs have been around for ages and some might say replaced by SSRI /SNRI etc which have far less addiction risk and none if any withdrawals [depending....]

After this long I think the only thing new is something shit like buspar ,Z-Class drugs are ok but only really for sleep.

A lot of things never get replaced ,chlorpromazine is still just as effects in trials as olazapine and Amblify with I believe less sides as a anti-phychotic.

When was chlorpromazine discovered ,the 30's or something.

are you looking for a new alternative to benzos (also called "happy pills" oder "mothers little helpers")? well I don't see anything coming.

SSRI/SSNRI are good, because some of them reduce anxiety (at least when you start taking them, over time it does not help a lot) and it's good business, because you have to take them regularly over a long period of time.

one thing I was always curious about is, why are the stimulant type of drugs like amphetamine and its derivates only occasionally used to cure depression? at least Elontril (Bupropion) I found really helpfull as I got the opportunity to get a prescription for several moths.
