Has anyone ever heard of this? What are the chances of getting benzodiazepines for social anxiety? (Note: I've already tried bupropion, buspirone, and SSRI's.)

Have you tried mirtazapine? (Remeron, Norset) I use it for social anxiety, and it's working good so far, without the potentiality of benzo's dependance.
The "only" drawbacks are gaining some weight and some stomach discomfort. But it's not habit forming, and it helps sleeping too. I'm going to start training for losing the weight and I seriously hope the stomach discomfort goes away.
Ask your doctor about it, it's so much safer than benzos.

Ask about Lyrica, it doesn't cause the dependency problems like benzodiazepines either. It only mimics the effects of GABA-A, doesn't work directly on it which greatly lessens the addiction problems and works for anxiety. For anxiety the starting dose is roughly 150mg and then you work your way up to 450mg. It works great for anxiety, especially for social. It is also useful for generalized anxiety. From studies 450mg has been proven just as effective as 1.5mg Alprazolam. Ask about it.

Yes benzos work great for anxiety but at a pretty obvious price. I've had doctors give me them before but they will never keep you on them. Benzos are almost always just to treat the initial symptoms while they get you on some anti depressant. Sadly I hate those but know taking benzos everyday isn't going to help either. Just go talk to your doctor and be honest and at least give the non recreational stuff a shot. If you're pill seeking though, you're probably not going to be very successful except for getting a tiny script for one week along with cymbalta or something. Doctors keep a pretty good watch on those things so I wouldn't try it.
