Benzos benzos for anxiety of dentist?

So I have a SEVERE anxiety of dentists and it just so happens I need a pretty nasty wisdom tooth removal (most likely will break into pieces when they try and remove says dentist)

I was wondering if anyone has used benzos pre-dentist visit to prevent anxiety? I have extreme anxiety and almost faint (vision goes black and sudden rush of adrenaline & sweat) during most of my visits to the dentist, even during a routine check.

I'm thinking about 4-6 etizolam 1 or 2 hours previous to the visit.

Is this going to help me do you think ?

4-6 pills of etizolam? Are those 1mg or 2mg pills?

You do not want to take that many unless you have a tolerance you didn't mention.

You don't want to walk in there uncoordinated because they will turn you away for being intoxicated. If you have no tolerance, 1-2mg will suffice.

I use etizolam 1mg pills usually once or twice a week (usually Friday and Saturday after drug binge/trips) so I have minor tolerance.

But it would be pre booked and I'm certain I wouldn't look intoxicated, I've taken 8 etizolam and been fine and not blacked out or anything, it's just that my dentist anxiety is so extreme I feel that 2 wouldn't be enough.

have you talked with your dentist about your anxiety? it's fairly common for them to script a few benzos to help alleviate dental procedure anxiety. i have a family member that gets two tablets of triazolam before every dental procedure and has to make arraignments to have someone drive her to, and help her in and out of the dental office. but she swears its a minor inconvenience compared to having to sit through them drilling and probing in her mouth.

It should be like that everywhere really. Up until the age of 12 I didn't receive an anaesthesia from my dentist when drilling cavities, so I grew scared shitless of visiting the dentist. Wasn't until I had to have my wisdomteeth cut out for the second time, but was too scared to go that the jawsurgeon prescribed me diazepam. It was smooth sailing after that. Never going without a benzo again, that should be a standard option in my opinion considering the amount of people who have above average fear of the dentist, yet it's pretty much unheard of over here.
If you explain your anxiety to your doctor you are likely to get a prescription, but if you want to stick to etizolam 2-3mg should be more then sufficient.

Oh my god don't take benzodiazepines if you're having wisdom tooth extraction.

They knock you out with IV midazolam (Versed) and Fentanyl or Versed/Demerol. Adding more benzos ontop of the midazolam and potent opioids could end up with them wondering why they can't resuscitate you.

If you are nervous, ask your surgeon if he will prescribe you something pre-op, so he can factor in what he plans to use to anesthetize you.

I am also very afraid of the dentist, I take 0.75mg triazolam (Halcion) before going in to have my teeth cleaned.

I agree, do not self-medicate for your anxiety, explain your situation to your surgeon and they will prescribe you a couple anxiolytics.

It's an awake surgery and I was told they don't give anything except local anesthetic. The tooth is not stuck in my gum, but rather normal, but broken from eating something hard, and needs to be pulled. There is a high chance that it can break during the pull and then they will need to dig around or make a few cuts into the gum area.

Honestly just from the consultation I feel sick to my stomach and i'de rather sit through pain then have the procedure.

I would take just enough to get rid of the anxiety. Even with a tolerance, you might of not blacked out on 8 or think you are fine, but in reality you might be slurring words and acting silly.

If the dentist gets any clue that you fucked on drugs I assure you that all you will be getting for the pain during the operation is some novacaine injections and a script for Darvocet afterwards.

Tell them you don't like pain, and they will ensure you won't be able to feel anything above your neck for the procedure and 4 hours after that.

I had the same thing done when I was younger. My wisdom tooth not only broke during the procedure, but the roots of it were wrapped around the roots of another tooth.

I didn't even flinch because of all the novacaine they shot my mouth up with.

I've had teeth pulled, my wisdom and four other molars next to the wisdom teeth, 15 years apart. The first time, local worked fine, numbed me up, and took my script for Vics and went on my merry way. A couple years ago, got the other four pulled, and again local only. Three of those teeth came out no problem, but the last one was brutal. This dentist did nothing for anesthesia, and after 5 Novocaine injections that didn't touch the tooth, he told me I had two choices. I could just bear the pain and get the tooth pulled, or leave and have to deal with a rotting tooth in my head until it rotted away to nothing. I told him to get it done, so he wrapped these leather straps around my wrists and tells me grab the arm rests when it gets too bad. Let me tell you, that shit hurt so bad I almost puked. I've had 3 kids natural, no pain killers of any sort, and I'd rather give birth any day of the week then ever go through that again. Now I can't even go for a cleaning without being benzo'ed out of my skull. Makes me want to puke just thinking about that chair. You have got to be a twisted mofo to like having a job like that.

Really? That shit had me drooling and I couldn't feel my head for hours. It was like I snorted really high grade cocaine.

They always need to give me like 6 of those huge metal syringes full, and I still have pain. My old dentist fucked up the nerves in my teeth though, so like when I have a cavity on the top, it feels like it's on the bottom.

I'm sure taking benzos before going to see the dentist would be fine. Just don't take too much because of obvious reasons.

My dentist offers "sedation dentistry" where you take Valium/Ativan an hour before coming and once you arrive at the office. I'm surprised more dentists don't offer their patients that option.

I used to be terrified of going to the dentist, but the one I use now calls himself a "painfree dentist," as his dexterity is amazing during cleanings. You guys should really try different dentists if routine teeth cleanups are causing you too much pain. My previous dentists were terrible.

Whenever I've had teeth pulled or other minor work done, I was drooling all over the place off that Novocaine like Guido. I've never had a wisdom teeth extraction or a root canal, though.

When I got my wisdom teeth removed they gave me a 10mg diazepam 20 minutes prior to the operation. They waited until it had kicked in and then gave me the midazolam/fentanyl IV combo with nitrous on top of that.

Don't go mixing benzos in without telling the doctor. They're going to give you some anyway more than likely.
