Hi

When I take benzo's whether it be Valium Xanax mogadon temazepam or lorazepam whatever I seem to get in a bit of a bad mood and more anxious then when I was before I took it. I'm not talking rebound anxiety I'm talking about when I'm acctualy "high" on the benzo . Not all the time but about 70% any ideas? Please don't say well don't take them then lol I want to know if anyone else has this issue

Thanks guys

This is what's happening with all the benzos you take? You mention a handful of different ones. What dosages are you taking them and with what frequency?

Some people have paradoxical reactions to certain benzos, but rarely is it all benzos. You're prescribed these, right? Are you consuming any other substances with these benzos?

Give us some more information and we should be able to help you. :)

PHi

Umm na there not prescribed but only low doses like 25mgs of Valium throughout the day 3mgs of Xanax n 5mgs of mogadon not all together the only time they seem to work is when I mix like 90mgs of dhc or a pint of beer but never seem to relieve anxiety on there own but just make me more anxious and puts me in a bad mood. Do u know if this is common or a known issues with some people?

Thanks

Sometimes when I take clonazepam I will feel extremely depressed and tired. To the point of having near suicidal thoughts. I do not have anxiety, but I notice that all my other benzo user friends do not have these side effects. Perhaps we're similar.

I do not have GAD, I take benzos to deal with stimulant induced panic disorder which happens VERY easily when using amphetamines.

benzos sometimes make me more "gong-ho" if that makes sense, sometimes instead of making me calm, it makes me anxious and my way of thinking is altered, i end up doing stupid shit like going out to buy crack and relapsing. sometimes it just makes meirrational and anxious. most of the time if keeps me calm. kind of like how alcohol makes u do things u regreg later on..sometimes i get that with benzos..not totally stupid shit, but just some things ill do i regret i normally dont do

Mine do what there supposed to. An at a higher dose I sleep - only do this when am out of sleepers.
Have you had benzos before? How long you been taking these? Are you really taking them for anxiety?

As NT said, some folks get paradoxical reactions - but with all of these?
Best HR advice I can give is stop abusing your mates script, get a diagnosis - if it is anxiety there could be an underlying disorder causing it, and let your doc prescibe what he feels may work for YOU. What works for him may not work for you.

If you just wanna get high off them and they're making you anxious then stop playing with those and find some new toys!

hmm I've never had an issue with benzos. one of my friends though had a similar reaction to you and he just stays away from them. if you have anxiety that you're trying to treat i would talk to a doctor about it if you think it may help.

OP, you mention taking them with beer. This is not advised because beer and benzodiazepines both suppress the central nervous system (mostly responsible for breathing..) as neighborhood threat said, you may be experiencing paradoxical effects.

When I take my clonazepam, I become very mellow, relaxed, and at peace. However I made the silly mistake of mixing them with alcohol once. Never again. I became very violent and angry (when I am always a giggly, happy drunk) and i tried slugging 2 of my male friends in the face for no reason. I'm 105lbs and female but I can pack a punch -- the two of them had to restrain me because I was freaking out and wanted to fight everyone.

Anyway, my advice to you would be to take small doses BY THEMSELVES, and not mix them with anything else. One benzo at a time, no other drugs. This will (hopefully) give you a therapeutic result.

Best of luck.

Do other gabaergic drugs have this effect on you? Like alcohol or GHB? Your cocktail for someone who isn't used to benzos would be quite a dose I would imagine. For me, carisoprodol(soma) has a very edgy come on, but when it hits it is relaxing. Any other drugs or prescriptions that you are on? Do you smoke? etc.

Paradoxical reactions, do sometimes occur and are thought to be the result of disinhibition. These paradoxical reactions occur much more often in recreational users, people with certain mental health issues (such as BPD, learning disabilities, neurological issues, etc), children/youth, people taking high doses, or people taking benzos long-term. The first suggestion would be to lower your dose and decrease the frequency you take them.

Hi

No there not scripted but I only take 5-10mgs of any benzo. Unless its Xanax then its about 2mgs over the day and if I drink a beer with it its only one beer ever. I know I could probably find this out on Google but what is a paradoxical reaction.

Thanks guys

A paradoxical reaction is when you get the opposite effect that the drug is supposed to provide, for example benzos are supposed to decrease anxiety so if someone gets anxiety from taking them then that is a paradoxical reaction.

The potency of benzos varies greatly between the different ones, so 5-10mgs could be very different from one drug to the next. Here is a chart that shows the equivalent doses of different benzos. I would say try taking a smaller dose and go longer in between the times you take benzos. And try taking them by themselves without any alcohol or other drugs. Then try it with a different benzo and do the same thing (take less etc). If that doesn't help then maybe you are just one of those people who can't take benzos without these side effects.

The 3mg of Xanax you take daily is killing your tolerance, and making you heavily dependent on benzos, increasing your overall levels of anxiety. You can't expect to take "1200mg Gabapentin" with your 3mg Xanax on top of Mogadon and Valium without paying the Piper of benzo dependence in the end.

There's no free lunch with drugs; if you want to get high now, you'll have to pay for it later.

I suggest you take minimal doses of Valium to maintain at this point. There's no point in chasing out a GABA high that you've already worn out.

Thanks for the explanation mate.

When I take them in high doses like last night for example I took 30mgs of Valium 3mgs of Xanax 5mgs of mogadon and 2 pints of beer and I felt great I was tired but didn't even want to go sleep just wanted to enjoy the high but I was playing golf with friends so could of been a situation effect as I was in a good mood anyway. So in high doses I love them but don't like to abuse them cuz of addiction and the Dr won't prescribe them cuz of my age.

PS. I know my doses arnt very high in comparison to others.

So I think its weird that in low doses they create a paradoxical reaction but in high doses they do what there meant to

Your combined dosage of GABAergics is quite high, don't kid yourself. The beer and gabapentin are extremely synergistic with benzos. You actually have one of the higher dosage patterns of GABAergics I've seen on this board; just because you see a few BL'ers on 20-40mg Xanax daily doesn't mean that most Bluelighters have a tolerance and dependence that large.

And no problem! :)

Interesting, you are saying that when you take a low dose you get anxiety but when you take a high dose you don't? In that case, I would guess that the problem could likely be, as ErgicMergic said, from taking benzos too often. You are getting a tolerance to the effects of the benzos. People often get to the point where a smaller dose does not relieve their anxiety or where benzos actually worsen anxiety when they take benzos long-term on a regular basis.

You really need to ween at this point, because the likelihood of you being able to feed that monkey is slim to none, you will have to do a very strange and tapered dose. You need to figure out what dose it would take of your single most available benzo just to maintain so you have a reference point from which to taper. If you are getting these drugs free, I would horde them to sell or trade them for something else. I am surprised you went down this road this far, as it is a road I don't like very much.(I'd much rather do GHB on the weekends then benzo cocktails daily) Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones who has an easy benzo taper.

Honestly, as bad of a pickle as benzos have put you in, I think its high time you found a new DOC. I think it is better to use a drug you like but not love than to let yourself go unleashed on something you cant control.(This is why I avoid heroin anymore, and try to use opiates that do not make me crash nearly as hard) Good luck, and find your maintenance level.

Hi

OK thanks again all. But that's another thing I can go a month without taking any benzos and have no wd's ever. I guess I just wanted to know if this is a known thing as my friend got scripted some Valium n he said all it did was make him a lot more anxious n yea I do get them for free that why I take em cuz I know some people would love to be in a position where they can get a load of different benzos n not have to pay lol. Might just stop n use em just to sleep on the odd occasion
