Benzos and benzo analogs (z-drugs), cross tolerance, tolerance break

Which benzos have cross tolerance which each other?
Which benzo analogs (z-drugs) have cross tolerance with each other?
Are there any benzos that have cross tolerance with any of the z-drugs?

How long of a tolerance break should you take for your tolerance to drop down to fairly low?
Let's say you have a high tolerance, how long would you wanna wait?
Let's say you have a medium tolerance, how long would you wanna wait then?
And lastsly, let's say you have just a small tolerance, how long would you wait then?

All benzos are cross-tolerant with one another.. There is also cross-tolerance with the z-drugs. They all act on the same receptors (GABA-A).

Tolerance drops at different rates for different people, and it depends on the individual circumstances.. I'm not sure about exact time ranges so I will let someone else cover that Often you will find that even if your tolerance drops, it quickly rises again once your break is over and it becomes harder to get back down to baseline each time.

It's unfortunate that all benzos as well as z-drugs works on the same GABA receptor. You could possibly take a break and use barbiturates as a replacement. They act very similar but barbiturates bind to the beta subunit of GABA receptors which is apart from where benzos bind. A cross tolerance still exists, but to a much lesser extent.

Be aware that benzodiazapines replaced barbiturates for the most part because of safety purposes.

I highly doubt you're going to get a script for anything more powerful than Fioricet (an anti-migraine concoction that contains 50 mg of butalbital, which from what little I know of barbs, isn't particularly powerful). Possibly phenobarbital or pentobarbital if you have a history of seizures. Other than that... well, I'm not an expert, but I've been offered a lot of drugs, specifically pharms, but never any kind of barbiturate (which is rather unfortunate, as I hear some of them were amazing). The safety issue is the biggest problem. People would take their dose, then forget they took it and take it again... then OD and die or end up in a coma. Barbs are extremely dangerous when taken in excess (even by themselves), unlike benzodiazepines (hence the move to benzos as first-line hypnotic/anxiolytic/etc.
