Hello again everybody.

As suggested by a fellow bluelighter, I decided to check out a Drug Interactions Checker website. I use dilaudid daily, so I figured a website like this would serve to be quite invaluable for me. Yet a few combinations I've put into them seem to get odd results.

I've always been told and thought that lorazepam (ativan) was a NO DICE while on opiates? I recently got some ativan, and as I'm trying to lower my dilaudid use as much as possible I figured they would help for sleep/anxiety. So I decided to heed the advice of someone here and check one of those websites for detailed info.

What I was checking for was WHEN it would be safe. What I want to do isn't mix them directly. I was looking for whether it would be fine to take 3-4mg of ativan 5 hours or so after my last done of dilaudid. But the website told me there was no adverse interactions AT ALL.

Well now that's just a bunch of malarkey isn't it? This is why I decided to post this, even after being told to use those websites. In the nearly six years that I've been here, I've never been given shady advice. I trust all of you more than anywhere/anything else on the internets.

So should I disregard these websites? I'm not sure what to do. Also, would it be fine to take that ativan (3mg-4mg) in 5 hours or so? In total, today I've had 24mg of dilaudid. My last dose was half an hour ago, 4mg. And if this isn't very safe, would it be fine to take less of the ativan, say 2mg? All I really want is to be able to sleep, but mainly to kill some anxiety/feel good.

Sorry for the wall of text. Thank you to those who read it.

I have no tolerance to ativan, but have a large tolerance to opiates and am 120lbs; if it helps.

There's no normal amount I'd take, I haven't had ativan for a while so I have zero tolerance to it.

So 5 hours after last dilaudid dose, would 2mg be fine then?

You sound like you don't weigh very much and with no benzo tolerance... I would start with 1.5 and try that.

BTW, you should use EPOCRATES from now on, its online or free for phones, and mine is showing a moderate drug interaction between hydromorphone and lorazepam, indicating increased or synergistic CNS depression.
Be careful.

EDIT: 5 hours after last does means that the Dilaudid is like 3/4 gone, so you should be fine IF you do decide/ need to take more.

^this.

The only interactions between opioids and benzos are increased CNS and respiratory depression. If someone is on high doses of opioids then benzodiazepines can be dangerous to throw in. If someone is tolerant to on or both and doesn't take excessive doses of either, there shouldn't be any problems.

This can be VERY dangerous if too much is combined and has contributed to many OD deaths (especially with methadone and heroin) but the combination can certainly be used responsibly in moderation.

Are you a serious hypochondriac or something?

Yes, it would be SAFER, but as 2mg is a normal theraputic dose, I don't think you will have any problems since you are opiate tolerant.

I know that being overly-cautious is a rarity here but no name to insult him you bitch ;)

mu's right though - this is a harm reduction site whose primary concern is safety and we're all telling you that you're fine.

Since we all seem unanimous here, I'm going to lock this bitch up like the midgets in K'd-OUT's basement. If anyone think it should be reopened, feel free to drop me a PM :)
