benzodiazepine equivalency question

Partitions on each tab, I was taking 25 - 35 mg diazepam daily. I run out tomorrow and cannot restock and only have some clonazepam (think its called Klonopin in the southern hemisphere or Paxam) and I need to know what dose is equivalent as each chart is so different. One says 1mg equals 20dz and another says 1mg equals 10mgs dz...any advice from people in the know? Just wanna remain steady...not off my head till next script for valium. Please help.

1mg should be close to 10mgs of diaz. Pins always made me sleepier than Vals.

I wouldnt take more than 2mgs at a time until you see how you react, but start with 1mg (I am NOT a doctor, just from personal experience..)

Effects are highly variable between individuals; for some clonazepam is highly potent, like myself, but for others it'll be closer to 1:10. But yeah: 1mg clonazepam is equal to 10-20mg diazepam.

In my personal experience diazepam is also a lot more sedating; clonazepam is mostly anxiolytic (and anticonvulsant). I used to take clonazepam daily for anxiety/panic; diazepam was not suitable because an effective anxiolytic dose was too sedating and intoxicating. With clonazepam I had to take a smaller dose and felt clear-headed.

Clonazepam fortunately has a very long half-life as well, and a longer duration of action than diazepam (though it comes on much slower), so you should be fine until your next Valium script - also you've still got lots of active metabolites in your blood. I'd start with 1mg, and give it at least 2 hours to take effect before taking more if you need it.

Thank you both, really good advice and will begin acting on it. I am def physically and psycho reactive to all benzos, was born with the addiction and cried so hard I broke my tonsils so they had to be removed at three months of age. Its just a bastard to get clear of and I cannot self maintain unless its "oops I overused" time. Dropped from 40 vals to 25 in a couple of weeks which was smooth enough despite a bit of the usual tearing up and anxiety but have had ten mgs diazepam this morning and enough to support 25mgs (found old stash) for another day or two so will soldier on and then switch to your method above. Again, thankyou very much.

0.5 mg of clonazepam is I believe equal to approx. 5mg diazepam. So I'd try taking 1mg or 1.5mg to start with.
