Hey all. Well its been about 4 months off of Benzodiazepines and Opiates, was using for about 5.5 years prior to this, pretty heavy as well.

Anyways guys, I've had this symptom for awhile and I cannot remember if I also had it even before I started using drugs, but I don't think I did.

Anyway I get this feeling where my skin is SUPER SENSITIVE and even like my necklace wearing it, bothers my skin, and at the same time I get goosebumps up and down my arms. I also sweat really bad underneath my arms, and I never used to like this. I will just be sitting down, and my shirt underneath my arms gets soaked.

Can anyone relate to this? If so, is this a withdrawal symptom from benzo's? :\ Will this eventually fade away? Anything I can do about this..? I am only on 10mg of Paxil and 100mg Trazodone for sleep. :|

Thanks guys

It doesn't sound anything withdrawal related to me, it could be PAWS but after 4 full months it wouldn't be like this for most people and the some of the symptoms don't match up either

I say it is something else

A hormone imbalance is a possibility, regardless, going to a doctor to get checked out is probably the best course of action

good luck my friend

regarding benzo withdrawal...

"...patients complain of intolerance to loud noises, bright lights, and sensitivity to touch"

^^^^^
But not usually at 120+ days clean and not usually at this intensity unless there are some outstanding factors

Which is a possibility because the OP hasn't told us much about his usage history, OP, can you please elaborate?

I don't need to read it anymore than the mounds I already have

No need to do anymore reading, was on 5mg of clonazepam (Klonopin) + alprazolam (Xanax) as needed for 2 1/2 years daily

I LIVED IT
.....I'm glad to say I'm 75 days clean and feeling good :)

So you if your talkin about reading villian maybe you should re-read my post and find where I said it usually isnt this bad for MOST people at the 120+ day mark, it wasn't for me or anybody I've ever know that have all detoxed, but it a possibility and it would be easier to assess if the OP could give us some of his past use history as having withdrawals this strong and this point would be rare for MOST people

do you have other benzo symptoms? if so, i would say it's probably benzo withdrawal and should fade away. i had a lot of skin sensitivity the first several months off benzos, but it is a lot better now.

for a lot of people, it is still very bad at 4 months. benzo withdrawal can last for years. i am 10 months and still doing very badly with intense symptoms. it is hard for me to understand how you can be feeling good at only 75 days. what withdrawal symptoms did you have and are they gone now?

Hey guys. Thanks for the replies. Well I was using benzo's for about 5 1/2 years. Pretty much every benzo you can name, except for the really rare ones you don't hear much of in North America. Anyways, for about the last 4- 5 months, was using up to 12mg of Ativan daily. I was also using Flurazepam pretty heavily (Dalmane) which has a half life of up to 450 hours, which is extreme.

I don't really have much of other withdrawal symptoms, except for the skin sensitivity really bad, and sweating.. Also sometimes some tachycardia still, and some anxiety to boot as well, but the anxiety is getting better.

Somebody mentioned a hormonal imbalance, why do you mean by this? And if so, is there certain tests they can do for this? Its not my thyroid, because I have had it checked numerous times, and last time was Februrary 2010.

Yes, a general practitioner can easily administer tests for endocrine/hormone levels via urine or (more commonly) blood tests.

If it is worrying you, I would make an appointment, explain the symptoms (and include your history with detoxing from benzodiazepines, certainly) and see if the doctor thinks a test would be necessary. Administering such a test really isn't too big of a deal, medically speaking, so there should be no problems, only prompt answers.

You may want to zero in on the activity of your adrenal glands as well as your thyroid gland, and possible overactivity of your sympatho-adrenal-medullary system (don't think the HPA system would cause sensitivity to touch, but I could be wrong).
Just a thought.

Also, has your immune system been jeopardized since you got clean (that is, have you been significantly ill at any point since 4 months ago?)

Good luck!

^^ Thanks for the reply. I did have my thyroid checked back in Feb. 2010, and I have also had it checked numerous times in the past and everything was fine.

Anybody else relate to this, or comment on anything?

you might also want to have all your vitamin levels tested. i know someone who believes that long term benzo usage can cause deficiencies and that could be causing your problem.

this thread has me thinking.....i abuse benzos, usually alprazolam, diazepam and ocassionally, lorazepam, clonazepam, temazepam.

and when i say abuse i mean ridiculously stupidly foolish amounts, anywhere in between 100-300 pills over the course of a weekend (i only ever use on fri/sat and never in the week so at least i give myself about 7 days break but with some of the long half lives im guessing my body doesnt really think its having a break of any kind.

ive been taking this amount for the past 4-5 months and prior to that i was using around 20-50 pills every fri/sat for the previous 4 months....so all in all ive had a progressively worsening weekend benzo habit form.

anyway time has come where my tolerance is that high its time for a break as the benzos are doing nothing for me at all!

..im thinking of trying a 7 week break,i want to stop completely (as in no benzos at all for the next 7 weeks) i was wondering if my tolerance will lower any at all during this break? and also will i be putting myself in any danger of serious withdrawal symptoms?

as most of the questions, answers and info and guides ive read all relate to benzo withdrawal and tapering for people who are daily users rather than just weekend abusers.

ive had a lot of contradicting opinions and advice, some saying taper or eklse your in for big trouble and others saying no real need to taper as ytour only a once a week user (albeit heavy)

and to the OP sorry to hijack your thread.just thought some people would know the score on this particular thread.

thanks.

I abused benzos way past the point of them ever working. The bad news for me was I cant get high off benzos anymore. I could pop 20-40mg of xanax after a 2 month break and still not get high.

some bodies take a year or two to recover fully from benzo abuse :\

some folks can just shrug it off

exercise, eat well, keep yourself busy ,

when i feel wonky from xanax wd's some fresh pineapple snaps me rite out of it
along with omega vitamins

i read about staying away from high potency b complex vitamins as they could stimulate your CNS and make your symptoms worse

go do a search for benzo withdrawl forums, they have been thru it
better than getting advice from us knuckleheads,
not that that site doesnt have knuckleheads

I saw my Doc yesterday, and we were talking about possibly putting me back on Lyrica - just to stop some of these sensitivity symptoms, and some of this underarm sweating. Anyone know if this would be a good idea or not? I know Lyrica (Pregabalin) does work on the GABA receptor sites as well.. anyone else on Lyrica after Benzo's?

Thanks again

Oh Sorry, forgot to mention above that I WAS on Lyrica for about 3 years, but got off it completely about a month after the benzo's, was on max dose - 600mg/day.

well im not suffering withdrawals as im still a once a week heavy abuser.

besides i do all of the above,i cycle 10 miles everyday, and i eat a very healthy balanced diet, and i work a fulll time job 07.30am-16.30pm everyday, admittedly i do find it hard to keep myself busy in the evenings thats due to tiredness and through lack of options/motivation.

the weekends is where my problems lie,i just dont know what do do with myself,im like a lost sheep,i ocassionally bike road when the weathers good on the sat/sun,but even then as soon as i get home from work on fridays i hit the benzos hard!
