Ok, I have 1mg Clonazepam RX'd to me to taper off of other benzos, my benzos of choice were, and are still Xanax (alprazolam) and Valium (Diazepam)....

Klonopin is too potent for me, to be honest, and it'll obviously be a harder w/d than weaker benzos like Valium or Ativan.

I've never had Ativan outside of a hospital. Both times were IV'd to me, and it's SUCH a relaxing benzo.

The reason I want to switch from klonopin to Ativan is because of the potency of klonopin, and the half life of klonopin, both are stronger and longer.

.5mg of Klonopin = 1mg of Ativan, re-searched on benzo potency charts,
The half life of Ativan is 8-20 hours, while Klonopin is 20-50 hours.

Should I ask my doctor to make the switch? She said on our next visit you'll be given a script of .5mg clonazepam, as im tapering down on benzos,
I'm questionable because like I said, ive had Ativan only twice, both times in the hospital IV'd.

Is Ativan a good replacement to taper off the klonopin?

Both times I was given the Ativan at the ER, felt amazing. Super relaxing. I'm like damn, feels way better than Xanax.

I'm not looking to abuse them, when I want to get high, I use my street benzos, Xanax and Valium. But I DO take my Klonopin as RX'd.
The days I take Xanax or valium, I don't use the klonopin to stock up, because ill need them towards the end of my taper.

Now, should I stick to .5mg of klonopin next month, or ask to switch to 1mg of Ativan?

The reason you're given clonazepam is because how long acting it is.. Lorazepam is intermediate acting... You need a long acting benzodiazepines to taper and since you abused valium which is what's usually used you were given klonopin

My doctor actually gave me a choice between 1mg klonopins, 1mg Xanax, or 10mg Valiums, at 1st. Yes Valium and Xanax were 2 of the benzos I was abusing, but it doesn't mean I can't taper Valium with Valium, or Xanax with Xanax.

The reason I chose Klonopin was for that very reason. Because I was abusing the other 2.

I have no doubts my doctor wouldn't mind giving me Ativan over Klonopin. Klonopin is more potent and longer lasting, as you already know.

When asking a doctor for something weaker than what you already have, the doctor would be more happy with you, right?

Oral lorazepam did not feel as strong as hospital IV for me. I would stick with clonazepam for the taper as it's longer-acting.

Yeah. Of course that. Any drug is stronger IV than oral.

but the thing is, I'm tapering. And honestly if I feel that good everyday like I did when I got iv ativan at the er while on methadone, i would abuse the shit out of them.

Thats ts what I want, something a little weaker, and less half life. I guarantee ativan w.d is less severe than klonopin w.d.

its like comparing hydrocodone to oxycodone, strength wise. And hydrocodone compared to methadone, half life wise.

But out ill do whatever my doctor wants me to do.
