hi im currently at a cross roads right now i currenty take 3mg of xanax a day maybe 4 at times.I recently went to the ER today because i ran out of zan and was starting to Wd bad. I have been on for 4 years every day. No more insurance. My question is what is my best approach and what type of md is the best to look for for a taper.if you can help me in anyway or advice maybe just your story please. Thank you.

that's going to be rough. my gp helped me taper, i think most would be able to do that for you. The best approach is to slowly switch to valium (take half xanax and half valium for a few days then keep upping the valium and lowering the xanax) once you find a comfortable dose that is the beginning of your taper.

i tapered with valium and it sucked but much better than a full withdrawal. There's not much to it, every dose drop you will feel awful but then your body will adapt and you go through this cycle until you come off at which point you face a bit more shitty feelings.

www.benzo.org.uk this site right here has the best taper plan IMO. It may seem slow but that's the pace you want to do this, especially after 4 years. Good luck with it.
