Anyone here found that they were or are addicted to valium or similar drugs. Could you be addicted to 10mg per night, if so, how would you taper - 2mg per week? Also when u've tapered down to nearly nothing do you still feel withdrawal symtoms - if so, what sort of feelings and how long did they last?

The reason i ask is SWIM took 10mg per night to combat opiate wd. for 3months. The other day didnt take any and felt strange thoughts that kept going in circles, mild anxiety, couldnt sit still, also had chest pains. Could this be physiological addiction to valium.

it can be, but i doubt 10mg of diazepam per night for three months would be all that bad. now, take it all day long for a year and that would be a real bitch.

^actually i think its closer to six months, just checked the script date. Trouble is SWIM is actually going thru the last stages of opiate wd still. But symptoms described have never been felt b4 during many previous opiate wds. Forgot to mention that outbursts of crying, agitation and bouts of depression are accompanying this.

sounds normal. just taper slowly, even if it takes more then a month. at some point you will just have to quit.

Benzo addiction IS a bitch, I had a harder time getting off 2mg of Klonopin per day (in which I took daily for five years stright) than any other drug I may or may not have been addicted to. Muscle /body aches, muscle spasms/jolts, headache, extreme anxiety, agitation, insomnia, mild convulsions, shakes and shivers. It all varies but here is what "The Recovery Book" by Al J Mooney M.D., Arlene Eisenberg, Howard Eisenberg::

Possible withdrawl symptoms (but are not limited to)::
Nervousness
Tremor
General hyperactivity of the CNS
Hyperactivity of Tendon reflexes
Fever
Nausea and vomiting
Loss of appetite
Abdominal cramps
Sweating
Generalized aches, pains
Muscle cramps
Insomnia
Anxiety
Panic attacks
Depression
Distorted sensory perception
(possible) seizures
(possible) hallucinations and delusions

Between the second and fourth day after the last dose or as late as seven days after, one or more seizures , usually with a loss of consciousness, may occur. Full-blown psychotic delirium resembling DT's, sometimes also develop.

Withdrawl symptoms may appear even with those who've used the drugs for as little as two to three weeks since the benzodiazepines have long half-lives. Withdrawls persist longer than they do with most other drugs considering half-life. Withdrawls usually peak three to four weeks but can last to some degree for months. Effects may still be noticed over a year after drug discontinuation but severity DOES lessen with time and eventually disappear.

6 months of daily (or multiple times daily) dosing of Valium even at 10mg can produce physical and psychological addiction/dependence.

Tapering down slowly from 10mg to 7mgs to 5 mgs to 2mgs to 1 mg and than stopping your body is bound to feel withdrawl effects. Granted since the dosage was relatively small the w/d symptoms wont be too bad but the dosage was constant which obviously means your body was dependent on the drug (valium) take it away and your body will take awhile to adjust. I have had lingering benzo w/d symptoms for 1-2 months after ceasing dosing.

Do not be a dweeb. This is obviously a thread of a personal and serious nature.

Benzo withdrawl is a BITCH! K'dout hit it on the head. Obviously, tapering is the way to go. After a month or so, he is just going to have so suck it up and be strong.

Good luck dude.

thanks for your replies. they've been really helpful.

What annoys me about this situation is that it was "accidental" in that i dont like benzo's, i have found them useful when going thru opiate wd. Trouble is this time the opiate taper lasted a lot longer than i thought, resulting in a longer time on diaz. Last time i just used temazepam for about 2 months and i was fine.

I dont understand why people dont just suck it up and go through a real opiate withdrawl? I mean all these benzo's may help for 1-2 weeks, but after that you'll become dependent quite quick.
I have been through 9-10 heavy duty withdrawls and they were not pleasant but I do them cold turkey with a pack of ciggs and some weed and just go through it, like today, i had been using alot of pharmies and now I have nothing.

^lol. i dont know what opiates u r on but try doing it cold from 3 x50mg IV physeptone amps per day for 12 yrs or high doses of pure pharm smack, then let me know if you feel the same way. Anybody out there tried this and pls be honest guys n gals?

I have lost count of the cold-t's from street H and they arent that bad compared to the above. I dont know anyone who i have come into contact with who have even managed to go cold on 50mg of methadone (who'd been on it for more than a year) let alone what i was on. i know of one person who was on 100mg and he was committed to the psychiatric ward after 1 week! The main wd from 'done lasts for one month, then you have about 6 months of residual wd. Also, the more times u go thru it the harder it gets.

Now personaly, if feel pretty damn good with how i have got on in the last 6 months, from the above to just 1mg of bupe a day, next week = nothing. Throughout this i have managed to not have a single day off work and have kept my relationship of 12 yrs going with my partner who doesnt use. All without any help from doctors or other agencies.

Each to there own, every persons w.d is different as is everyones tolerance to pain and are all dependent on how long, how much and which opiate u've been addicted to.

I wish i hadnt ended up with having to go thru all this shit again and could get thru wd with lil weed and some cigs. Shit, perhaps i am just a fucking wimp who cant stand the extreme pain, chronic depression, weeks without sleep and myriad of other nast shit that goes with CHRONIC opiate addiction.

see below for how much IV 'done = other opiates

I havn't had the joys of opio/a wifdrawl but
I hear you saying how hard benzo's can be to come off.

Last time, cold turkey straight off 8mg's of alprazolam
a day (4 months), I had full blown hallucinations, delusions -
I 'thought I got a new job' and went to it,
only to realize I wasn't employed there.
I 'thought that my friend's were going to drop
a chocolate milk bomb in teams from fighter jets
on the pentagon as a practical joke, and certain famous
people were involved, and called my mother to tell her
I was going to be out of the country in America playing
a huge practical joke.'

Has anyone done that on opia/o wfdrawl?

opiate withdrawls are unreal. i have totally flipped once detoxing. ended up being baker acted and spent a week in a detox center that gave me darvon and librium. believe it or not, this combo helped bigtime. i came out feeling like a million dollars.

Im currently addicted to 50mg of valium (pure pharmaceutical powder) per night, and this was after lowering myself down from multiple hundreds of milligrams. I am trying to decrease my dose, but since its powder and not pills (where you know the exact dosage), it is somewhat complicated. Also, im addicted to 180mg of methadone/day, which only complicates things more.

I need to detox off the valium before i can start tapering off methadone; i couldnt imagine detoxing from a high dose of methadone and valium simultaneously, but this may become a reality, since im planning on starting to lower my methadone dose. This would be confusing, since i wouldnt know what withdrawal symptoms are from which drugs, and the discomfort would definately be compounded.

God damn, i need to get off this valium before i get off the methadone. I may need to switch to the 10mg diazepam tablets, so i can more accurately taper. When i tapered from 70mg to 50mg, i experienced quite a bit of twitching, in fact im still twitching quite often. I am definately in a bit of a pickle.........
