BENYLIN E.S. and DXM HYDROBROMIDE

BENYLIN extra strength DM-D-E-A COLD, MUCUS & Phlegm RELIEF (GREENISH COLOR) PILLS

In the INGREDIENTS it says:

ACETAMINOPHEN 500 mg

DEXTROMETHORPHAN HYDROBROMIDE 15 mg

Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride 30 mg

Guafenesin 100 mg

Is there a way to get DXM alone without the harmful ingredients and how would I do that?

I extracted codeine from Tylenol 3s through cold water extraction method.

Is there similar method for BENYLIN E.S. PILLS. I HOPE I DIDN'T BRAKE ANY RULES AND GOOD ANSWER WILL BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

I've never heard of extracting DXM before. I'm not sure you can extract any ingredient from those pills, not even the APAP. I say just go with Robotussin DM with only DXM as the only active ingredient because that would be your safest bet.

you were able to extract the codeine from a codeine/acetaminophen mixture because codeine is water soluble while apap (acetaminophen) is poorly water soluble; leaving you with ultimately a codeine water mixture with little apap.

unfortunately the dxm in your pills are reasonably water soluble (1.5g/100mL water) along with the pseudo and guafenesin so a simple cold water extraction isn't feasible here.

just looking at that formula there isn't a quick simple method of extracting the dxm. i'd find a more suitable formula with safer, inactive additives.

It is impossible for the layman to seperate DXM and e.g. pseudoephedrine or antihistamines.
