Smoking tobacco may actually have one possible benefit. There is some evidence that it decreases the risk of Parkinson's Disease:
Isn't it a neurotoxin?Nicotine is neuroprotective, there is also a bit of research suggesting it could be beneficial in the treatment of Parkinson's and, as you mentioned, Alzheimer's. I've also heard a bit about it being slightly effective in weight loss. I don't use nicotine often, but I do enjoy using it on occasion as a stimulant when trying to finish certain tasks. Can't really commend to it's use in depression/anxiety though, am curious to find out.
