**** Beneath the Mirror Ball. Comments ****

There was lots of shots of 61 in there. Thank god for that! I've never been to home, and after seeing the footage of it, I know why!
each to their own, eh.
I felt nothing but pity for that chick. IMO, it looked as though she'd had a spew and could still taste it...

Well I agree with most comments.
The show was pretty good but for fucks sake the link with political demonstration is just not on. How many hardcore ravers are apart of this? Not to many.
Anyway it handled the drug aspect well, apart from a few scattered souls in Sydney. (can anyone dance in that state???)
Also what about the Home CEO guy saying they have to realise the war against drugs is lost. There is no war we just need to make people more aware and put out knowledgeable material explaining the effects so people just do it safely, so we can all share an amazing experience if we so choose.
‘keep lovin the musik’

I was on a comedown from Sonik watching it with my Mum (a nurse), so I found it rather interesting to say the least. I gotta say that I knew exactly what Kelly meant!! It's a pity they didn't get over to Perth...oh, well. All in all I have to say that that was the best doco on raves and E that I've ever seen. I reckon it was pretty fair the way they handled the whole drug issue. Maybe should have gone into the other things like K, acid, whiz etc. I don't know, I'm just a little scat-ed at the moment, so everything's taking too long and is too much effort.

Before you criticise someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticise them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

the documentary contained fictional characters and any resemblance to bluelighters is purely coincidental.
just kidding.
Mark = Tars
Cam = Cammac
John = Johnboy (!)
Dude with goatee and plaited hair = ICFML
Cute chick on the coach (Tars told me to say that
wink.gif
) = blue kitten
hands scraping pill for testing at 'rave' = horsey's limbs.
others I don't know...

The transcript is up: http://abc.net.au/4corners/dance/transcript.htm
My fave line:
OMS NOT BOMBS KOMBI DRIVER: Someone took my keys. They're stolen. The police have stolen the keys. They must be working for Bob Carr and John Howard. These police are mercenaries. There's no violence. This is a Love Parade vehicle. It's a love bug. It's a Kombi. It's been attacked and raped. My keys have been stolen.
Bwahahahahaha

...just picture that guy with the long hair from the Young Ones saying it... What was his name again?

If you're a cowboy and you're dragging a guy behind your horse, I bet it would really make you mad if you looked back and the guy was reading a magazine.

Tars you are thinking of Neil LOL.
Big props go to the Bluelighters and Enlighten crew that were on the show

.
Kelly should be shot!!!!!!!!!!
Also I think the title of the show should have been called Beneath the Lasers or something like that IMHO.

Only just found fuckin time to get to my PC. Well I thought the drugs part was OK with same observations as everyone else. I'm not going to go into the politix part as its all been said. However I will say that they made a good start with describing the musik but they forgot Hard House (Yes I am a Hard House slut! and yes BJ I my first thought after there lack of mentioning NRG was Bass Junkie is going to say something about that). Big Ups to all BL's involved. Anyone needs a copy of the tape I have one as well just mail me.

I thought it was excellent.
Too much time spent on the politics aspect though; they could easily have said the same thing in half the time.
The girl at the end was classic for us to watch but came across very badly to your ordinary viewer.
Obviously she was fucked and felt like shit; but its a shame she couldnt offer some positive words on the exp she just had and a positive outlook of the sort: "well that was an amazing exp but it has to end sometime; i feel trashed now but what i got from it far outweighed what i may have lost" (in her case probably half her cerebral cortex)
The same woman at the start suggesting she took the drugs coz she HAD to, to last that long, was disappointing. I dont see that as a reason which we should use to defend use of party drugs. Or at least not the main one.
I couldn't believe the policeman said what he said. As he didnt imply there was anything wrong with what people were doing. I'm thinking he would be in a bit of trouble.
The research doctor helping get the msg across that recreational drug users, esp XTC users, r not junkies but normal, if anything successful, people, was a godsend.
The best thing though was the interviews involving the ~20yr old guys and girls. Everything they said was spot on and they came across exactly as they should have; level-headed, responsible, mature, normal people and EDUCATED about what they were doing.
I esp liked how they recognised that XTC use was occasional and seen as a priveledge, not taken often and never for granted.
(just realised some of those people r BLs. Thanks guys; Tars, Cammac, anyone else)
Its just a shame that the viewing population of this documentary will not be as wide-spread as it should be.

just noticed that bluelight is NOT in the drugs links page. or in the music links or in the political links for that matter. why is this? i reckon it definately should have been included. but interested in why its not there, and if people think it should or shouldn't have been put in...

...got a place for watching that will paint pictures and colour lights...

admittedly I've only read the transcript and not seen the actual show but IMO they focussed too much on the politics and the drugs, and yet hardly mentioned the music and didn't mention the dancing at all!!
Isn't that why most of us are here? Yeah sure they presented ecstasy in a good light and spent a fair amount of time on testing and harm reduction which is something that hasn't been done before, but the rave/dance scene is also just as much about the dj's, producers and good dancers than the drugs.
All in all a good doco for the limited amount of time they had and for the audience it was aimed at (older very politically aware abc watchers)....but IMO it could've been better
Oh and I reckon that Kelly chick was most likely on speed...she was in the four corners forum saying she hardly ever takes pills, and considering she parties in Brissie you can almost definitely say her bad mood at the end was brought on by speed comedown. But that's just my own obvservation to be taken with a massive mountain of salt.
