**** Beneath the Mirror Ball. Comments ****

Great job. Huge kudos to the BL crew! Tars, JB, cammac, blue kitten etc. Great job.
My only criticism would be that the whole thing was far too sydneycentric. No offence to you people up there, but how many plugs does HOME need? Nice that they showed BL, although I hope we don't get a load of anti-drug nazis coming in here to shut us down as a result of our newfound fame.
I believe that the politics was somewhat overplayed in relation to the rest of the show, yet it did show how it is a prominent sound in the activist movement. The would be revolutionaries ain't listening to the rock, the hard beat is where it's at... Just another showing of how diverse the scene really is.
Oh and that chick, Uhhh....
------------------
The woods are dark and deep, and you have miles to go before you sleep...

I dont see what was wrong with the politics.
Ohms not bombs have been a big part of the scene for a while here in Sydney.
I like the way politics was brought into the subject matter. Even though its probably a misrepresentation or even an attempt to justify the scene. At least its not just hedonism.

yeah pity the forum on the ABC site was such a fuck-up. talk about a complete shambles...
i guess "realtime" and "moderated" are just too hard to put in the same sentence when the topic is so controversial?
and i think they got a bit overloaded.
and geez there were some idiots...

i had no idea this doco was gonna be on !
my parents were watching it even before i came in, so i guess thats positive.
a huge surprise to see so many familiar faces being interviewed.. nice words - particularly from cam and tarsy!!
overall i think it covered some good points.. although PLUR had nothing to do with my partying or drug experiences. i cant stand how that always gets brought up. so embarrassing !
biggrin.gif

also, more time could have been spent on the harm minimisation issue, rather than the protest footage.
but all in all it was definitely worth being shown. many older people need to get a clearer idea of what goes on, and the different arguments on key issues.
and i guess we can expect some more traffic on bluelight now.
*applause* for all involved.

i thought it was pretty good, though nothing will ever convince my mum that drugs aren't totally evil....... The S11 stuff was well and truly overdone though... fair enough that they were there and shit, and good on em, but it did take up a good 15 mins of the show.....
*that is all*

well done to those involved - I thought it was a fairly objective doco - great that the message that you didn't have to take drugs to go to parties got through. Big cringe momemnt when Kelly said
"I feel like dying".
Okay - she was on a comedown but we don't need that shit. Hope the mainstream realise it was an off the cuff statement.
Otherwise, good doco - but it digressed a bit towards the end IMHO.
Komplex - I've got it on tape ..mail me dude.
nezo.

i won't write heaps, i think most has been covered. my gripes are small,
(a) why so much focus on politics? everyone has complained about this, what do you think should have been in there instead? i think they covered harm minimisation extremely well for the media, they pointed out that almost all mdma users are not stereotypical 'junkies', and they gave a fair indication of what a party's like. so what could have been in that 10-15minutes if not the politics stuff? (btw i agree they did put too much emphasis on it as well)
(b) that chick. seriously, i'm not gunna jump to her defence. from the very first party i ever went to, i have always thought about how i would react if a camera crew came up to me. and it would not be like that. i remember seeing paul johnson(?) doing research for THAT fuckin Age article at 2tribes2000, and was ready to be as serious and not fucked up as possible. i've never had a tv camera in my face, but seriously, its pretty fuckin conspicuous.
(c) Why the emphasis on home? apart from the fact that sydneysiders can't dance (JOKE!!!), there was footage of a dude going in wearing a big white fendi jacket, chicks in high heels, what fuckin scene are they talkin about? (ps. they pat you down at home?? that just makes me sad
frown.gif
)
apart from that, no hang on, even considering that, i think the scene as a whole was given a more than fair go, and it as very well done. big phat well done to all those involved as well, particularly tars + jb (and nice couch appearances BK
wink.gif
)
buy!
------------------
...got a place for watching that will paint pictures and colour lights...

Bloody Hell apples! Steal my glory then why don't you????
Ditto on the politics thing. I like the fact that they included it (i think it was their little way of comparing us to the dirty hippies) but agree that they spent too much time on it.
Excellent narrative, flowed very nicely, nice imagery (Ooh Tarsy, what a spunk
wink.gif
LOL) and very well balanced I thought.
ALL except for that fucking stupid dumbass girl who should have known when to keep her mouth shut. It was all going so well until she told us she felt like dying.. WTF??? Are you a COMPLETE imbecile???? (i hope you're reading this and feeling reeeeeally bad) I for one have never ever felt like that at 7am (the party's only just begun!) but even if I did i wouldnt be telling the journo with the big fat camera shoved in my swollen face, and I'd certainly be more receptive to my poor boyfriend's desperate attempts to cover up the verbal diarrhoea spewing forth from my silly gob. (c'mon Fergus?? what are you doing with that girl anyway?)
I've also never taken drugs (at parties)solely for the purpose of staying awake, and I resent the fact that she's probably now being held as some sort of representative for many of us among those who DON'T really know how it goes.
blah. i SO should have been in that doco.
hehehehehee
but oh yeah! cheers to those of us that were. I noticed JB's sporting fresh haircut, and i love the way he described what happens to people if they unexpectedly down a K pill
"they freak out and have bad times"
heheheh classic.
Overall, the bloody thing gave me goosebumps. I was sitting here out in the sticks, wearing my wonky wear pants telling apples everytime i got goosebumps 'cause the damn thing just made me want to go out and dance my fucking ass off.
A success if you ask me.
Except for kelly. fucknut.

Next time I do something like that I'm going to get some more sleep beforehand... Tho if mona thinks I look like a spunk then I guess it wasn't too bad
wink.gif

I must say overall I'm pretty impressed, I really couldn't have hoped for more out of the 45mins that they had... ('cept for some shots of my gear dammit, what was with the try-hard CD-DJ? ...sheesh...
wink.gif
)
Nice work Cam... I knew I should have gone along to trancition that night
frown.gif

As for the lack of filming in Melbourne (apart from trancition) they just couldn't get permission to film anywhere where people wre interested in going... If they'd had more time they could have tho I'm sure...
They should have had a clearer shot of ICFML and I doing the melbourne shuffle too, then you would have seen some real dancers!
wink.gif

All in all I'm glad I was a part of it...
And if anyone wants to know, I'm Mark, the skinny guy with the dark skin and dark hair...

Hey all. So who are you all on that video? I taped the show and wanna go back through it and find you! Ive been recognising all youre names for ages, so who are ya!?
------------------
This is a political party broadcast, Vote Techno Party!

I was quite impressed with the report - yes, the girl was a bit of a knob - but I think she was in for a hard-arse comedown - and all the politics stuff just was a bit draining!
"man, the police stole the keys, our combi has been raped!" ROFLMAO - that guy had me in hysterics
Tried to get my mum to watch it, and her protest was, "i dont like what you do already and i dont want anymore information" i think she was chanting to herself "my daughter DOESNT take E, my daughter doesnt take E"
But a big congrats to everyone interviewed, well done - u guys spoke well -
AND MELB KIX SYDNEYS ARSE WHEN IT COME TO DANCING.................
Cam dude, I know u! i couldnt stop laughing when i saw u on tv -last time i saw u was ages ago, u had to run away from a BBQ coz your great artistry made someone look like Braveheart!

".....and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon............"

hey, did you guys see where we were testing at that "rave"
Well (i'm not sure if i'm supposed to say this) but it was actually at jbs bar. We dimmed the lights, chunked the music up *lol*
The guy talking is none other than.... (take a guess - not jb tho) and the guy with grey skivy holding the pills is *ta-da* me. HAHAHAH! my arm is famous. woohoo!!
Missed the second half cos fuck-stick dad pressed the stop button cos I was out, but MASSIVE props to Mark! Dude, you hit the nail on the head, couldnt think of anything you said there that I would disagree with! Well done! a true bl ambassador!
kelly.....what a nob! Didn't get to see her coming down, but what she said prior to that was fucken stupid. Maybe next time the opportunity to say something comes up, you dont
wink.gif

now....who can i borrow a tape off.....I wanna see the second half :-p

But you guys have to realise.... ALL the Sydney footage was shot at home. I don't think it was a true representation of the Sydney scene as a whole. Its just a place that fits the most people AND filming on Sublime night (ie 4 different styles of electronica) was a great lead in to their little genre breakdown (and they didn't do "too" badly). So anyway.. my point is.. NO the best Sydney dancers DO NOT go to home.
so there.
ps. its not that one style of dancing is better than the other.. its just that the scenes are SO different, you just can't compare.. and thats coming from an experiences melbourne AND sydney dancer.
smile.gif
hehee

Well, this is going to repeat a lot thats been said but....... Here goes.
I thought it was good for the first 30 mins...
I LUV'd the cops saying that drinkers cause more trouble. Dont know if "the girl" really was one the ball when she was saying why *we* take drugs.... And yes, the comedown comment, *cringe*. Personally I would have tried to be a scattered funny bastard in that situation.. But hey.. It would have looked a WHOLE heap beter if they picked one of the more happy ravers...
smile.gif

I personally thought the whole political side was a bit of a load.. From where I stand, most ppl I know do it for FUN!!! Pure and Simple.. Sure there are those out there who get into politics, but they're in a minority, and therefore didn't deserve such a large portion.
I think the last 15 minutes could have been used showing some real dancing ----- Kandy 7am on a Sat Morning.
biggrin.gif

Anyway, addmittedly it was the best report *so far* in terms of fairness. To the Bluelight team and Enlighten, good job... GO TEAM!

On the note of home...I was suprised to see Simon Page openly say that drugs are everywhere and that the dealer could be your daughter( heehee) .. But what i'm wondering is, why does home have such a nazi stance on no drugs , when its ceo knows that there's so many patrons on drugs?? Is it just for legal reasons so his club doesn't get raided? And as for HAVING to call the police? hmm..
RBB-yes, home patrons get searched, ie "Empty your pockets, open your wallet, let me look thru all your personal belongings....Oh, whats that? you don't think i have a right to look in your wallet? Get OUT!"... that kinda shit...
Woulda been nice to see some less commmercial clubs (altho that was 61 Regent st right?), but i guess they showed home cos soooo many ppl these days go there to be cool - and parents probably think it's the only club in sydney...
frown.gif

And to all who complained - those people dancing at home did suck!! We really don't look that bad!! i swear! home sux!!! You just need to go somewhere where the people are there for the music!
Overall, sweet leaf approved.
smile.gif

PS- Hang on! i just remembered! Didn't anna woods' mum say something along the lines of teaching ppl about the dangers? It almost seemed( forgive my lack of memory
wink.gif
)that she was going for harm minimisation , not total annihilation?!?!?
