been sacked.

Great advice here from Swampy. You must be worried about it but try not to be and look at it as a lucky escape to give you space to rethink your employment strategy / opportunities.

I've never had a job without 2 interviews, a presentation and psychometric testing. Its a cunt. I've been through 2 restructures recently with a 3rd looming (public sector). I'm keen to negotiate a redundancy package out of this one as I've had enough and want out and a serious change. It's a grim process but I'm over due a major job change. I've never been unemployed and I'm not far off 50, so its all very stressful at the moment. I'll not be shifting out though without a package and compensation grrr....

The thought of change is now exciting me, I've been working on my cv and feel optimistic - change can be good so keep your chin up. x

Work eh...the joys.

Talk to one of your m8s and tell them your putting their name and number on your CV/resume, rehearse with them what to say and hope for the best.

My bro and his best mate done this loads of times for jobs and helping out at festivals, def do it.

Go on one of them "Restart" courses the Jobcentre runs to get people back to work. In my experience, this is the single best way to find out how to lie on your CV or cheat your way into work. My old gf went on one of these in the 90's. It was held in a church basement in Richmond. It took 3 days to find the light switch, the fourth day was cancelled coz the light showed the basement was flooded & the final day was spent learning how to stretch the truth on your CV, lie about qualifications & experience etc etc. I suspect the entire endevour cost the benefits system more money than it saved!

Anyway, sorry to hear that Hex, but surely another job of equally shiteness would not be that hard to find... Best of luck!

haha like the Work programme a complete waste of money and oxygen. I been on a Course before for CV writing and at the end we had to do a interview which was recorded. I was supposed to go on a retail course but my advisor forgot, Why on earth would you need to do a retail course... its a no qualifications job

Hex what are you interested in doing or don't you know what you want to do, i managed to get a part time job as an Computer technician beginning of the year and i like it so far, best job i have ever had plus i'm on full time hours now. You will find alot of people in IT are recreational drug users

God, The Apprentice was toe curlingly embarrassing last night, even " Barnoess" Karen and Nick Hewer loooked embarrased as some poor girl just w/couldnt accept being fired, she was almost crying and begging and pleading with Lord Sugar not to fire her. Some of the cocky cunts on there are so full of themselves i have to admit to taking some schadenfreud in seeing them being bought back down to earth, but having recenty been on the receiving end of hearing the words "you're fired" im generally a lot more sympathetic as i now know how much it hurts.

was way to high on MXE to go into my shitty job as a nightclub glass collector tonight, so i've been sacked. I also failed Uni, but have an foundation degree.

what do you do when you have no references?

This. Lie.

99 times out of 100 they won't even check the references.. but just got a job which they did (fhighly professional job, too).. they send letters with a crappy questionnaire like "Rate their attendance / time keeping - Very good, good, ok, shit"

It's easy if you say you were self employed in construction because many small firms use their home address as a business address.. not that they'd be able to tell.. if they address a letter to "Windows Workshop - Persons name etc etc" It still gets to them.

They tried calling one but only because he didn't reply (he did but they lost it.. blaming it on me / my employer).

Now there's some good ideas, gonna make a note of them myself. I'll have so many list of ideas and 'things to do' soon that I'll have to transfer them to a book, or get them scanned into my pc.

How's your job hunting going btw? Are you kind of being choosy about what you're applying for, or just going for anything?

I think they are looking for people to help rebuild the Manchester Dogs Home MDB, a really worthwhile cause and will probably be quite impressive to local employers to have on your CV. My office are looking at arranging going down there to help out as part of a team building exercise.

i'm currently on housing benefit, will getting sacked affect this? Also how long does it generally take to get JSA? I could live off housing benefit and JSA (I earned basically the same at my job, it was zero hour contract and i'd generally earn between £40-£60.)

If its anything like it used to be, new JSA claims it takes about 5 or 6 weeks before you actually get any money, but they may have sped things up now... I remember having to wait that long in the past.
