I never realized how talented the Rolling Stones were until recently listening to their discography. Wow! Where was I at back in the day? I mostly listened to Pink Floyd, Yes, Hawk-wind etcetera. Funny, how much I missed doing my own thing seems so long ago. I had a couple of albums by the Rolling Stones but never really delved into their music until now.

Thank god for recorded music

They are terrible, they have at the very most 4-6 good songs.

They didn't pay Fred for using his song for years, he was so close to death before he got a few hundred dollars for the cover they did of this & yet they were always saying how much Respect they had for the old blues men!!!!!



"McDowell's rendition inspired many subsequent recordings, including a version by the Rolling Stones. The Stones regularly performed "You Gotta Move" during their 1969 US tour. They recorded a version at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama in December 1969, with later recording in England in 1970. It was later included on their 1971 album Sticky Fingers without a songwriter's credit. Later reissues listed the authors as McDowell."

Never burned their record s or something only blemished their image.
The music stand s, but what s behind also has a stance.
 
"paint it black" and "gimme shelter" are top hits for what i'd consider dark music.


"dead flowers" and "wild horses" for feel good music.

haven't heard all the stones, but for the hits, those are my top favorites. great stuff
 
oh shit... "under my thumb" is insane sounding too and one of my favorites... i'd consider that a dark one.. idk.. kind of evil sounding.. got to love it.

nice - what are your favourite tracks and albums?

i've loved the stones for almost as long as i can remember. i was in a shitty band at college and, when i learned to play 5-string open g like keith, i was so excited. keith is pretty much a musical hero to me.

it's conventional wisdom to love exile the most. and i do.

i also love sticky fingers with maybe some girls in third place.

it always seems to come way down the rankings for stones albums but i have a real soft spot for undercover and i particularly love the title track.

i've seen the live twice. urban jungle/steel wheels tour in 1990. wembley stadium and hampden park.

I'm just now extensively exploring the Stone discography. Some great songs and music obviously never made it to mainstream radio. I like the old songs, well nowadays everything is old considering what is coming out now music wise by the Stones are remakes. That doesn't change the fact it's still great music.

The Stones have a blues flavor unmatched by any other band I know of.
 
Notice how the Beatles version shines and rocks out while the Stones versions is basiclly "phoning it in"...

Edited to add: It's not that I don't think the Rolling Stones were bad musicians, I just think they didn't feel this one. They have countless great songs and performances that I really enjoy.
