hey all,I was mostly drinking in my teens before finding heroin.
it's just now,3 years off heroin, that weed has become my main medicine.
it's legal in CA,I get it prescribed for anxiety.

so what I mean,I'm 39 and loving weed culture and smoking
high grade shit.I was always a depressive junkie.
for me,weed has been a great thing.

am I the only one late to the marijuana party?
becoming a dedicated stoner later in life?

gonna roll some cookies now and play with my cats.
peace,everyone.

I've been smoking forever it feels like, started off at 13 and I'm 24 now. Most people I know got into weed no later than their early 20's, but I do know a few older folks (usually a relative of a friend) that picked up the habit later in life. They're all cool as hell, definitely have their shit together and just happen to like being stoned every so often.

I say more power to people like you, though. I'd choose a long-term weed habit over one with heroin any day, and I'm happy that it's worked out so well for you in recovery. The more 30+ year olds that can embrace cannabis the way our country's done with alcohol, the more legitimate the substance will become in our country (if you happen to live in the US,) and I think that's a pretty good thing.

I agree.
I feel us older folks should promote weed and responsible use more.
thank fuck that where I live in the US it's considered medicine.
it makes it more socially acceptable.
we need complete legalization though.
it's coming.

I wish I was introduced to marijuana later in life, although I don't believe it had any effect.
I become a huge pot head in high school, and didn't care about much else including school and forming any hobbies other than torching bowls in my bong, but I don't regret it really as I've learned to mediate my usage to a responsible level.

I was not that into pot in my teens. I smoked some, but mainly because everyone I hung around with smoked. I've started smoking more lately now in my mid 20s as I've also gotten rid of my heroin addiction. Weed has been great to help me through rough times of withdrawal and depression. Unfortunately I feel like I've been overdoing it a bit lately so it has lost a bit of it's charm.

I was 35 when I first tried weed.

I still use weed to this day but mainly to "potentiate" more addictive substances. My morning vape session is really the only time I enjoy weed by itself. :(

Nice one, OP! Balls to the perception that older people are set in their ways! (Of course, 39 is far from old- you're not much older than I am, in fact)
Smoking weed can indeed be a life-enhancing and mind expanding experience. Gateway drug? Bollocks! We're both recovering addicts (heroin and opiates, here) and it's great you're clean and enjoying life. I don't care what the hardcore 12 steppers say in this regard; the therapeutic and beneficial plant we call weed can be a great tool for staying off the nasty (as we call smack) and enjoying life. We only get one of those, after all.

^I think so many twelve steppers focus fanatically on being completely clean they forget about being happy.

Different levels of maturity come in different ages for different people. What's the disease that you said you're using medicine for? Keep up the good work in not doing H. Believe me, it sounds like a quaint compliment but knowing what H does makes it much more. Peace.

I'm fucked off with this notion that smoking weed is something that kids do. It's insulting to the adults that enjoy it.

I think its better if people pick it up later in life rather than their teens. Ages 14-21 are the most critical time for developing brains I was always told, if people pick it up later then their brains are way more firmly wired and generally have their shit together to afford their indulgence, which is good! Less crackheads breaking into my car, jacking my shit, shieeeeeet.....

I smoked pot during my teens but suffered from too much paranoia and anxiety so I gave up. I'm in my late 30s now and have only just discovered that, by eating my hash, I avoid all the negative effects. So yep, maybe it took me 20 years to figure it out, lol.

Better late then never...
my sentiments exactly.
craved crack like a MF today but smoked some stuff that mad me think.
played the tape forward.crack has no value to me at all.it's poison.
I'll stick with weed forever.
