After 5 years of chronic pancreatitis my pain med use grew and I asked my Dr if we could try something new that would not upset my stomach so much. I was taking 8 of the 2mg Dilaudid tablets daily for pain and I had been a model patient, so he prescribed me 75 mg fentanyl patch every three days. I was very impatient and didn't feel any pain relief. I read one person say to cut them up and put a small strip in your gums so being an idiot I tried it and wham it sure worked. Getting that much fentanyl in a few hours led to violent withdrawals, so I kept taking more and my Dr kept writing me more scripts for a larger dose until I told I'm losing control of how much I use and cannot control it like I could with the dilauidid so Im scared. Dr said your fine don't worry here is a new script for both fentanyl 100 mic gm patches and dilaudid and try to alternate. Wow !?!? I did not know what to do and ended up going to a new Dr that treated opiate dependence and began taking methadone but this led to more health problems. I tapered down my dose for a year despite the nurse and counselor telling me not and was off for a week as required then started taking Suboxone 8m strips. I got my life and health back once I was off the methadone and learned to control the pain through diet and a cautious lifestyle of no alcohol use and going to the gym and eating smaller meals and I look and feel great again. I have not been able to taper off the suboxone without withdrawals seeming to never end. I lasted 9 days the last time but the withdrawals didn't stop and I went back on my strips. I take a testosterone gel for low T and modafinil for fatigue and ADHD and my pancreatitis is mostly gone. Anyone get off the Suboxone let me know what worked please.
